DEMPSEY. 97, of RED BANK, died Saturday at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Mrs.

Dempsey was born in Brooklyn and lived in Brookfield, before moving to Red Bank 15 years ago. She was predeceased by her husband. James A. Dempsey, in 1975. Surviving are her daughter, Dorothy Strahle, Red Bank; seven grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, is in charge of arrangements. JAMES N. DONNICANS. 77, of Somerville, whose relatives live in ASBURY PARK, died Friday at home after a lengthy illness.

He was a retired long-distance truck driver and had been employed by the Independent Trucking Company. Mr. Donnicans waz born in Pittis County, and was a resident of the Somerville area for the past 30 years. His wife, Edna died in April. Surviving are two nephews and a niece; three brothers-in law, Walter Turner, George E.

and James Farris, all of Asbury Park, and three sistersin-law, Lillian Turner and Elaine Bradforth, both at home, and Willie May Allen, Asbury Park. The Edward E. He was the owner of Grabowski Taxi Service, Manalapan, for 13 years. Prior to that he was an electrical tester. for Westinghouse Jersey City, for 39 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan Township.

He was born in Brooklyn, and lived in Basking Ridge, Bernards Township, for 20 years before moving to Matawan 24 years ago. Surviving are his wife, the former Ruth Martinson; a son, Gary, New Providence; a daughter, Lorraine Lenskold, Chatham; a brother, Emil Conrad Kummer, Murray Hill section of New Providence, and 10 grandchildren. EMMA M. MURPHY, 82, of WALL TOWNSHIP, died Saturday at Medi- Center, Neptune. She was a machine operator for Westinghouse Bloomfield, for 18 years, retiring in 1965. She was a communicant of St. Catharine's Roman Catholic Church, Spring Lake, and a member of the church's Sewing Guild.

She was also a member of Daughters of Mount Carmel; St. Mary's Guild for Children, Maplewood; Belmar area chapter of Deborah Hospital, and V.F.W. Auxiliary, Newark. Mrs. Murphy was born in Newark and lived there before moving to Wall in 1978.

Her husband, Peter died in 1969. Sheehan was a member of the F.O.P., P.B.A. Local 3, and Superior Officers Association, all Newark; and the Disabled Veterans Association. He was born in Castleton, and lived in Newark until moving to Oceanport over four years ago. Mr. Villarreal was born in Culican, Mexico, and came to the United States in 1974. He lived in Alabama and in Holmdel for two years before moving to Aberdeen three years ago.

The date of death was incorrect in yesterday's Asbury Park OCEAN JOHN CAPRIGLIONE, 67, of the Forked River section of LACEY TOWNSHIP, died Saturday in Forked River. He retired in 1982 as a salesman for Aaron and Lippman, Newark, after many years. Mr.

Capriglione was a communicant of St. Pius Roman Catholic Church. He was the past president of the Lacey Township Italian American Social Club, and a member of the Old Guard of Forked River and of the Knights of Columbus, Lacey Township. Mr Capriglione was an Army veteran of World War II. He was born in Newark, and lived there until moving to Forked River in 1984.

Surviving are his wife, the former Fannie Carbone; a son, John Belleville; a daughter, Joyce McGregor, New Burn, N.C.; two brothers, Salvatore, Edison Township, and Leopold, Mountainside; two sisters, Mary Bahr and Rhoda Milano, both Bloomfield, and three grandchildren. Mr. Collins was an assistant chief engineer for the Department of Transportation in Trenton for 37 years, retiring in 1976.

He was born in Brooklyn and lived in Linden and East Brunswick before moving to Berkeley Township 14 years ago. Surviving are his wife, the former Nellie Elsey; a son, John Fabian, Seaside Park; two daughters, Jane Certain, Longwood, and Judith Alexander, Browns Mills section of Pemberton Township; a brother, Victor, Cape Canaveral, a sister, Mildred Hofmeister, Westfield, and five grandchildren. Mr. Darcy was a regional sales manager for the New York Telephone Company for 47 before years retiring in 1975. Mr. Darcy was born in New York and lived there before moving to Berkeley Township 12 years ago.

Mr. Darcy was predeceased by his first wife, the former Catherine Ahern, in 1952. Flint was born in Jersey City and lived in Roselle Park for 32 years before moving to Cedar Glen West in 1970. Her husband, George died in 1976. Miss Giffert was born in Bayonne and lived in Roselle before moving to Berkeley Township 11 years ago. She was predeceased by two brothers, William V. in 1988 and Joseph John in 1980, and a sister, Mary, 1920.

Gobeille was a French teacher at Weequahic High School in Newark for over 40 years, retiring in 1965. He lived in Newark and Point Pleasant for 25 years until 1979. He was predeceased by his first wife, Irene Blanchard, in 1938 and by his second wife, Marie Due Ottley, in 1979. Surviving are a son, Ernest P. Mrs. Gorski was born on Staten Island and lived there before moving to Florida in 1980 and then Whiting in 1982. Her husband, Edward, died in 1982. Surviving are a son Joel, Michigan; two daughters, Janis Olsen, Toms River, and Joyce Labita, Staten Island; a sister Beatrice Whittle, West Virginia; seven grandchildren, and one greatgranddaughter.

SARAFON "STEVE" JACENKIW, 67, of LAKEWOOD, died yesterday at home. He was a superintendent for Crossroad Manor, Lakewood, for 28 years before retiring three years ago. He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Lake Roman Catholic Church, Lakewood. Mr.

Jacenkiw was born in Poland, came to Lakehurst in 1948 and moved to Lakewood in 1951. She was an account clerk for Hoffman-LaRoche Pharmaceuticals, Nutley, for 16 years, retiring in 1971. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Toms River, and its Hannah Circle. She was also a member of Gloria Chapter 159 O.E.S., George P. Vanderveer Post 129 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and Berkeley Star, all of Toms River, and Hoffman-LaRoche Retirees Club. ELSEWHERE NAN WOOD GRAHAM. 91, of MENLO PARK, the model for the tight-lipped farm woman in the painting, "American Gothic," died Friday in a Menlo Park nursing home. 1 The painting caused unhappiness in Cedar Rapids, lowa, in 1930, when Mrs. Graham posed for her brother, Iowa artist Grant Wood. Local women thought Wood was ct poking fun at them.

The painting por- trays a somber, pitchfork-bearing. farmer and his equally somber daughter standing before a cottage. The late Dr. Byron McKeeby of Cedar Rapids posed as the farmer. One woman wrote to say Mrs.

Graft ham's face would "sour milk." But after she came forward, identifying herself as the model, the painting gained acceptance and Wood's popularity soared. Mrs. Graham's popularity also, flourished. If her brother, who died in had used another model as originally planned, the secretarial school graduate said she would have whiled away her days as "the world's worst Ni stenographer." Instead, she once said, "Grant made a personality out of me. I would have 69 had a very drab life without it." Born in Anamosa, lowa, and edu- cated in Cedar Rapids, she married re-9 al estate investor Edward Graham in 1924.

The couple, who had no chil-; dren, lived all over the country, eventually settling in Riverside, Calif.
