Thompson, retired police captain BELMAR Harold F. Thompson, a retired police captain and former fire chief here, died yesterday at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, after a long illness. He was 59 and lived on 13th Avenue.

He Louis Van Note, 84; councilman 27 years SPRING LAKE Louis VanNote, a retired electrical contractor who served as a borough councilman here for 27 years, died yesterday at his home. He was 84 and lived at 422 Mercer Ave. He was born in Brad Edmund Steward, president of ALLENTOWN Edmund Y. Steward, president of the Allentown Savings Loan Association and a former borough councilman here, did Monday of a heart attack at his home. He was 64.

Wetg- LEO FINNEN HOLMDEL TOWNSHIP Leo Flnnen, a retired grocery-store died Monday at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. He was 78 and lived on Crawfords Corner Road.

He was born in Jersey City and moved here four years ago. Mr. Flnnen retired In 1966 after 25 years as manager of the Eagle Grocery Jersey City. He was a communicant of St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, here.

was a lifelong resident here. Mr. Thompson retired June 1 after 29 years with the police department. He joined the force in 1951, was promoted to sergeant in 1959 and was named captain in 1963. He was a member and former chief of the Hook and Ladder Company of Belmar.

Mr. Thompson was ley Beach and lived here most of his life. Mr. Van Note, a Republican, served on the borough council from 1948 to 1975. He retired in 1974 after more than 45 years as a self-employed electrical contractor.

Mr. Van Note was a 50-year member of and had lived here for 32 years. Mr. Steward served on the borough council from 1957 to 1974. He was Republican chairman here and a member ot the Affiliated Republican Club of Monmouth County.

He had served on the board of directors of the Allentown Savings Loan Association since 1956. THOMPSON Fire Company I and a VAN NOTE an apparent heart attack at the age of 72. He had been on a Newport Harbor boa.t outing Monday with a son and daughter, became ill while rehiring to his home here and died before reaching a hospital, a family friend said. Mr. Nolan with cowboy film star Roy Rogers and Tim Spencer formed the Pioneer Trio in the early 1930s and in 1934 they changed the singing group's name to the Sons of the Pioneers.

Rogers left the group in the late 1930s to concentrate on his films, and Mr. Nolan's vibrating baritone became the primary sound of the Sons of the Pioneers until he left the group In 1949. Mr. Nolan appeared with the Sons of the Pioneers in nearly 100 song-filled westerns made by Columbia and Republic Pictures In the 1930s and 1940s, and he wrote songs and theme music for dozens of other western films. He was born in New Brunswick, Canada, and his family moved to Arizona when he was a child.

He was a drifter, riding the rails on freight trains for a time as a young man, and a theme of lonely wandering dominated his most famous songs. In addition to "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" and "Cool Water," Mr. Nolan wrote more than 1,000 western, gospel and country western songs, including "A Touch of God's Hand" and "One More Ride." STEWARD both former chief of the Fire Department, who worked as a representative ot a gambling-equipment manufacturer, died Monday at the American Oncologic Hospital, Philadelphia. He was 34. He was born in Newark and lived there until moving here five years ago.

Mr. Welgand was an east coast representative for the Slrcoma Reno, makers of casino gambling equipment. He was a communicant of St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church, Berkeley Township, and a member of St. Joseph's Council 4969, Knights of Columbus, Toms River.

-Surviving are his wife, the former Arlene Karby; his mother, Mrs. Mary Welgand, Beach wood; four daughters, Lori, Sandy, Jill and Wendy, all at home; a brother, John Welgand, Beachwood, and three sisters, Miss Barbara Weigand and Mrs. Audrey Klein, both Lacey Township, and Mrs. Janice Wilkinson, here. MRS. FRANCIS X. O'CONNOR a member of Local 50 of the Policemen's Benevolent Association, the New Jersey Fire Chiefs Association and the Belmar Exempt Firemen's Association. During World War he served In the Pacific with the Army Air Corps. Surviving are his wife, the former Florence A.

Steward had been a school bus contractor for Upper Freehold Regional and Washington Township schools for 21 years, and had worked part time for the Peppier Funeral Home for 47 years. He was past president of the Allentown Lions Club, a member of the Allentown First Aid Squad, a senior deacon of the Allentown First Baptist Church and a trustee of the Old Services here. He was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, here, and a 50-year member and former master of Wall-Spring Lake Lodge 73, FA AM, Manasquan. THOMAS PORTEOUS MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP Thomas Porteous, a retired television repairman, died Monday at Community Memorial Hospital, Toms River. He was 70 and lived at 4B Cherry, Cedar Glen Homes. He was born in Scotland, came to this country in 1927 and lived in New York and Paterson before moving here seven years ago. Mr. Porteous retired seven years ago after 30 years as a television repairman and electronics surveillance systems repairman.

She was 71 and lived at 128 Ivy Hill Road. She was born in New York and lived in Rum-son for 20 years and in Sea Bright for seven years before moving here a year ago. Mrs.

O'Connor retired in 1939 after 14 years -as a store manager for Best New York. She was a communicant of Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Rumson. Her husband, Francis X. O'Connor, died last October. Surviving are a son, Francis X.

He was born in Germany and lived in Brooklyn before moving here In 1967. Mr. Ehrhardt retired In 1967 after 14 years as a maintenance and engineering man for B. Altman Son, New York. He was a member of the Holiday City Men's Club.

POINT PLEASANT Edward R. Staib, a retired milk salesman, died yesterday at the Summit Nursing Home, Lakewood. He was 82. He was born in Yonkers, N.Y., and had lived here for 21 years. Mr.

Staib retired In 1959 after 21 years as a wholesale route milk salesman with Del-wood Dairies, Yonkers. He was a member of the Old Guard of Greater Point Pleasant, Brick Township, and Point Pleasant Senior Citizens Chapter One. Eleanor Ryan Luclbello, 63, a former resident of Asbury Park, N.J., died yesterday at the Martin Memorial Hospital, Stuart. She was born in Atlantic City, N.J., and had lived in Asbury Park for many years before moving here in 1976. Mrs. Lucibello was the owner of Eleanor's Supper Club, Paramus, N.J. She was a member of the Deborah Heart and Lung Association and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Moose Lodge, both here.

Maska, a retired railway mall clerk, died yesterday at his home. He was 86. He was born in New York and lived In Kearny before moving here in 1968. Mr. Maska retired In 1954 after many years as a railway mail clerk for the New York-Washington Railway Post Office, New York.

He was an Army veteran of World War I and a member of J.E. Frobisher Post 99, American Legion, Kearny. Surviving are his wife, Clara Smolski Maska; a son, Edward Maska Belleville; a daughter, Phyllis Call, Rutherford; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Kymer, Bloomfield, and Mrs. Julia Smith and Helen Pollock, both Miami, and four grandchildren.

Mr. Baker retired in 1979 after 27 years as a borough employee here. He was a member of the Tri-Boro First Aid Squad, the Seaside Park Volunteer Fire the Republican Club, the Seniors Club and Faith Lutheran Church, Lavallette. He was born in Austria, came to New York In 1921 and lived In Hightstown, N.J., for 22 years before moving here In 1972. He had been a summer resident of Bradley Beach for many years.

Mr. Wunsch, a kosher butcher, owned his own business in Hightstown before retiring. He was a member of Congregratlon Beth Chalm, Hights town. His wife, Sadie Wunsch, died in 1978. Surviving are a son, Ben Wunsch, Greenwich, two daughters, Mrs.
