Ward Gertrude A. Wooley Cora E. Wrede Steve C. Zaleiko Elmer Herrmann, official SPRING LAKE Elmer J. Herrmann died Saturday at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

Mr. Herrmann was born in Newark and moved here 20 years ago. He served more than 50 years as executive director of the Essex County Board of Elections. Until his appointment to the board in 1933, he was active in Republican politics. He was an authority on state election law and procedure, and was instrumental in introducing the use of voting machines in Essex County and in the streamlining of registration procedures.

He was honored last year by the state Legislature and the Essex County Board of Freeholders for his half-century of service. His wife, the former Therese Gillen, died in June 1978. Surviving are a son, Elmer J. Essex Fells, a daughter, Pauline H. Wright, here, and three grandchildren.

Haeberle Barth Colonial Home, Union, is in charge of arrangements. JAMES H. DEAN, 92, of Eatontown died Saturday at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Mr. Dean was born in Tinton Falls and moved to Eatontown 65 years ago.

He was employed by Dean's Auto Body, Ocean Township. Previously he owned his own auto repair shop in Eatontown. In 1912, he was a biycyle racer and raced in the Newark velodrome. His wife, Alice, died in 1977. Surviving are a son, William Eatontown; three daughters, Cornelia Parnell, Long Branch, Doris Brand, Freehold, and Evelena Anderson, Suitland, a sister Mary Maguire, Long Branch; 22 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several greatgreat-grandchildren.

OBITUARIES Florence Terry, had luncheonette ASBURY PARK Florence Terry, 73, died Saturday at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Mrs. Terry was born in Mid Valley, and I had lived in Asbury Park 39 years. For 30 years, she was owner and operator of Flo's Lunch, Cookman Avenue, here, retiring in 1968. She a communicant of Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, Asbury Park.

Surviving are a son, Donald Brick Township; a daughter, Carol Maddocks, Spring Lake Heights; two brothers, Charles Faheringer, New Media, and Martin Purcell, San Francisco; 10 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Egan, 20, of Andover Lane died Sunday at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel Township, of injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident.

Mr. Egan was born in Yonkers, N.Y., and lived in Staten Island before moving here years ago. He was an electrical technician for ComData Holmdel Township. He was a graduate of Matawan Regional High School a and was a communicant of St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel Township.

Surviving are his parents, Patrick and Maureen McGrath Egan; a brother, Kieran, Staten Island; and a sister, Patricia, at home. Day Funeral Home, Keyport, is in charge of arrangements. yesterday at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Mr. Sweeney was born in Norwood and lived there and in Dumont before moving to Hazlet 25 years ago.

For the past 15 years, he was vice president of the American Educational Institute, Basking Ridge. Mr. Sweeney was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was on active duty with the 187th Regimental Airborne Combat Team. He was a communicant of St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg.

He was a 1956 graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck. He also attended Fordham Law School, New York. Surviving are his wife, the former Jeanette Walton; his mother, Florence Sweeney, here; a brother, Dr. Myles Sweeney, East Orange; and a sister, Eleanor Merlino, Florida. John E.

SWEENEY, 54, of Ridge Drive, Hazlet Township, died HENRY 'RED' KAISER, 48, of Keansburg died Sunday at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Mr. Kaiser was born in Bayonne and lived in Elizabeth before moving to Keansburg 22 years ago.

He was employed 22 years as a utility man for Elizabethtown Consolidated Gas Elizabeth. Mr. Kaiser was a communicant of St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg. Surviving are his wife, Rosemarie; three sons, James Richard, and Thomas, all at home; two sisters, Corrine Mayer, Middletown Township, and Ellen Kaiser, Princeton; and three grandchildren.

Laurel Funeral Home, Hazlet Township, is in charge of arrangements. JOSEPH H. WARD, 83, of Interlaken died Sunday at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Mr. Ward was born in Jersey City and lived in Interlaken for 35 years.

He retired 15 years ago after 40 years of service with Moma Electronics, New York. He was a 30-year member of the Deal Golf and Country Club, and a member of the Allenhurst Beach Club. His wife, the former Anne Lipick, died in June 1982. Surviving are a son, Joseph Interlaken, and a sister, Anne Hentschel, Harrison. Buckley Funeral Home, Asbury Park, is in charge of arrangements.

He was a member of St. John Methodist Church, Hazlet Township. Surviving are his wife, the former Antonia Barth; two sons, Carl, Staten Island, and Rolf, Hazlet Township; three daughters, Esther Morio, Staten Island, Trudy Lambert, Hazlet Township, and Heide Hazzerd, Belford, Middletown Township; 21 grandchildren, and 15 great -grandchildren. GIERE, 100, of Eatontown died Saturday at the MediCenter, Red Bank. Miss Giere was born in New York and lived in Eatontown for many years. Surviving are three nieces. Robert A. Braun Home for Funer- als, Eatontown, is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Luce led insurance firm BRIELLE Donald C. Luce 51, of Brielle died Sunday at Point Pleasant Hospital, Point Pleasant. Mr. Luce was born in Plainfield and lived in Bridgewater Township, before moving to Brielle three years was the founder and president of Insurance Concepts Ocean Township. He was also a director of Crestmont Federal Savings and Loan Association.

Mr. Luce was a member of the Million Dollar Round Table; the New Jersey Life Underwriters Association; and the Seaview Country Club, Absecon. He was past president of the MidJersey Lehigh University Alumni Association; past president of Watchung Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, and president and trustee of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity Alumni Association, Lehigh University. Mr. Luce also was a trustee of United Family and Children Society, Plainfield, and a trustee of the Plainfield Humane Society.

He was an Army veteran. Mr. Luce was also a member of Lamington Presbyterian Church, Bedminster Township, and Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church, Plainfield. Surviving are his wife, the former Marcia Gates; three daughters, Linda, Philadelphia, Christie, Somerville, and Julie, at home; his mother, Edith Shotwell Luce, Spring Lake Heights; a brother, William Annandale; and? sister, Anne DeAngelis, Mountainside. REINKE L. JANSSEN, 87, of Aberdeen Township died Sunday at home. Mr. Janssen was born in Jersey City and lived in Marlboro Township 10 years before moving to Aberdeen Township 50 years ago. He retired in 1962 as a machinist for Central Jersey Railroad, Elizabeth, where he worked 40 years.

He was an exempt member of the Freneau Volunteer Fire Company, Matawan, and a member of the International Association of Machinists. Mr. Janssen was an Army veteran of World War I. and was a member of First Baptist Church of Matawan. His wife was the late Lillian Ratcliffe.

Surviving are a son, Reinke Morganville, Marlboro Township; a daughter, Lillian Trojak, Bellmawr; three sisters, Deane Thompson, Toms River, Maybelle D. Janssen, Spring Lake, and Anna Noterup, Rahway; five grandchildren, and four greatgrandchildren. Waitt Funeral Home, Morganville, is in charge of arrangements. CLIFFORD W. HANEY 43, of Route 71, Spring Lake Heights died Saturday at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

Haney lived in the Shore area most of his life. He lived in Spring Lake Heights 10 years. He was employed as a second officer for American Airlines since 1967. Mr. Haney was a 1963 graduate of the Air Force Academy and served two tours of duty in Vietnam, rising to the rank of captain.

He was a member and secretary of the Shore Aquatic Club. Surviving are his wife, the former Louella L. Nedeiros; a son, Jonathan, at home; a daughter, JoAnn, Simi Valley, his parents, Clifford W. and al Helen L. Haney, Zephyr Cove, a brother, William and a sister, Miss Barbara Jean, both Los Angeles.

Johnson Funeral Home, Wall Township, is in charge of arrangements. STEVE C. ZALEIKO, 96, of Tinton Falls, died Saturday at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Mr. Zaleiko was born in Russia and lived in Red Bank before moving here three months ago.

He retired 17 years ago as a presser for the former Ardley Fashions. Mr. Zaleiko was a member of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, Red Bank. He was an honorary life member of Local 35, International Ladies Garment Workers Union.

His son, Nicholas, an engineer, died last Thursday. Surviving are his daughter-in-law, Hilde, with whom he lived, a granddaughter, and a great-grandson. John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, is in charge of arrangements. SARAH FRIEDMAN, 85, of Middletown Township died Sunday at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank.

Mrs. Friedman was born in New York and lived in Newark before moving to Middletown eight years ago. She was a member of the Riverview Stroke Club, Red Bank; the YMYWHA of North Monmouth, Marlboro Township; and the Sisterhood of Temple Shalom, Aberdeen Township. Her husband, James, died 1966. Surviving are a son, Arthur, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Menorah Chapels, Union, is in charge of arrangements. MARY E. AUMACK, 88, of Allentown died Sunday at Freehold Area Hospital, Freehold Township. Mrs. Aumack was born in Keansburg and lived in Hazlet Township most of her life before moving to Allentown in 1959.

Surviving are her husband, James a son, Thomas W. with whom she lived; four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Funeral Home, Keyport, is in charge of arrangements. Raymond Cass Dr. Claude Sullivan, Phillip Bertolino, ex-owner of market ex-Medicaid adviser area concessionaire WEST LONG BRANCH Raymond S.

Cass 84, died Saturday at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch Mr. Cass was born in the Bronx, and lived in Long Branch before moving here 60 years ago. He was the owner of Cass' Market, Long Branch, and retired in the late 1960s after 65 years. He was a member of the Oceanport Methodist Church and the Old Guard Long Branch. His wife, Beulah, died in 1975.

Surviving are a son, Raymond S. Cass Eatontown; a daughter, Joan Hacker, here; two sisters, Mrs. Garrett Johnson, Long Branch, and Gwenn Crowl, Fairfax, and six grandchildren. Robert A. Braun Home for Funerals, Eatontown, is in charge of arrangements.

OCEAN ELIZABETH MARY BROGAN MURPHY, 68, of Toms River died yesterday in Staten Island. Born in Jersey City, Mrs. Murphy lived in Lavallette before moving to Toms River 14 years ago. Before retiring, she worked as a receptionist for Atlantic Aluminum, Lavallette. Mrs.

Murphy was past secretary of the Parent-Teachers Association at the Lavallette Elementary School. She was also past president of the Rosary-Altar Society of St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church, Lavallette. Mrs. Murphy was also a volunteer at Community Memorial Hospital, Toms River, where she served more than 1,000 hours.

Surviving are a son, Thomas Murphy, Point Pleasant; five daughters, Marion Sinnotp and Dorothy Gallagher, both of Jersey City, Mary Duggan, Point Pleasant, Geri Schipano and Patricia Pinnella, both of Toms River; a sister, Mary Greutzner, Staten Island; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. O'Connell's Home for Funerals, Berkeley Township, is in charge of arrangements. SOPHIE GALKOFF, 89, of Jack- son Township died Sunday at Paul Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Mrs. Galkoff was born in Austria and came to the United States in 1912.

She lived in Rhode Island and New York City before moving to Jackson Township in 1949. She retired in 1959 after 20 years' service as a cook at Rova Farms Resort, Jackson Township. She was a past member of the Sisterhood of St. Mary Russian Orthodox Church. Her husband, Frederick, died in July 1956.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Murray, Albertson, Long Island, and Olga Sharkey, Jackson Township; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Glenn A. DeBow Funeral Home, Jackson Township, is in charge of arrangements. JAMES H. FINDLAY, 96, of Leisure Village, Lakewood, died Sunday at Paul Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood.

Mr. Findlay was born in New York City and lived in Scotch Plains before moving to Lakewood 14 years ago. He retired 31 years ago after 45 years as a divsional superintendent for New York Telephone PBX Department. Mr. Findlay was a member Christ United Methodist Church, Lakewood, and Manhattan Chapter, Telephone Pioneers of America.

He was an avid sportsman, participating as a bowler and golfer until he was 88 years old. Surviving are his wife the former Laura B. Ferguson, and several nieces and nephews. Van Hise and Callagan Funeral Home, Brick Township, is in charge of arrangements. CHARLES L.

FALCETTA, 80, of Toms River and Jensen Beach, Florida, died Sunday at Community Memorial Hospital, Toms River. Mr. Falcetta was born in Italy, and lived most of his life in Clifton before moving to Toms River five years ago. He was the owner of restaurants in Passaic, N.J., and Hollywood, Fla. Surviving are his wife, the former Rose Sorge; two sons, Frank, Toms River, and Gerald, Vero Beach, a daughter, Charlotte, at home, a sister, Phyllis Sferlizzi, Florida; and five grandchildren.

Anderson Campbell Funeral Home, Toms River, is in charge of arrangements. VINCENT OLIVER, 75, of Jackson Township died Saturday at Point Pleasant Hospital. He was born in Perth Amboy, and lived there for many years. He moved to South Toms River 14 years ago, before moving to Jackson Township four years ago. Mr.

Oliver was a tugboat captain for Reichart Towing, New York, before retiring in 1976. He was a member of Local 333, United Marine Divison of New York City. Surviving are his wife, the former Myrtle Marks; two daughters, Patricia LaVecchia, Toms River, and Catherine Quiro, Raleigh, N.C.; 10 grandchildren, and a great-grandaughter. Claude C. Sullivan died Sunday at Southern Ocean County Hospital, Stafford Township. Dr. Sullivan, 66, was born in Alabama and lived in Stratford before moving here in 1976. He was a winter resident of Hudson, Fla.

Dr. Sullivan was a state consultant for the Medicaid program from 1974 to 1980. He retired as a general practitioner in Stratford. He was a member of Beacon Baptist Church, Hudson; the Masonic Blue Lodge, Laurel Springs; the Excelsior Consistory of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Collingswood; and the Shrine of Trenton. He also was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Stafford Township, and a commander and member of the Surf City Yacht Club.

Dr. Sullivan was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the Medical Corps. Surviving are his wife, the former Helen Todt; two daughters, Suzanne Resner, Hyattsville, and Linda Sherman, Watertown, N.Y.; and four grandchildren. SCANNELL, 64, of Bay Head died Saturday at Point Pleasant Hospital. Mrs. Scannell was born in Midlothlin, and lived in Beacon, N.Y., before moving to Bay Head three years ago. She was a retired corrections officer for Matteawan State Hospital, Beacon. Mrs.

Scannell was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Bay Head. Surviving are her husband, John two daughters, May Louise Garvey, Chatham, and Kathleen Nagro, Tokyo; a brother, Augustine Westerhuis, Beacon; a sister, Therese O'Donnell, Maplewood; and three grandchildren. Halvey Funeral Home, Beacon, is in charge of arrangements. MILDRED KNELL, 68, of Brick Township died yesterday at home. Mrs.

Knell was born in Queens Village, N.Y., and lived in North Caldwell and West Caldwell for many years before moving to Brick Township in 1981. She was a member of the Manasquan Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her husband, Herbert three daughters, Susan Cone, Livingston Township, Jeanette Cuneo, Fair Lawn, and Judith Sudigala, Tampa, three sisters, Jane Froehlich, Bell Port, L.I., Ruth Curd, Boonton, and Peggy Hunt, New Harbor, Maine; and eight grandchildren. ENGEL, 51, of Brick Township died yesterday at Brick Hospital. He was born in Newark and lived in Union before moving to Brick Township 20 years ago. Mr. Engel was a self-employed professional engineer with Ralph D. Engel and Associates, Lacey Township.

He was a member of the Forked River Rotary Club and the Forked River Chamber of Commerce, both Lacey Township. Surviving are his wife, Joan Andryszczyk Engel, and four daughters, Cynthia Lisa Susan and Caroline all at home. Johnson was a lifelong resident of the area. She was a member of Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church, the Republican Club, the Bay Head Yacht Club, and the Seaweeders Garden Club. Surviving are two daughters, Shirley J. Ashley, Bay Head, and Pauleen J. Manning, St.

KATHERINE S. JOHNSON, 76, of Point Pleasant Beach died Sun- ELSA H. SHALET, 89, of Crestwood Village, Manchester Township, died yesterday at Community Memorial Hospital, Toms River.

Mrs. Shalet was born in Oldenburg, Germany, and came to the United States in 1911. She lived in Jamaica, Queens, before moving to Manchester Township in 1972. Her husband, Louis, died in 1968. Surviving are a daughter, Miss Eugenie Ruth Shalet, here; a sister, Martha Lester, St.

Petersburg, and several nieces and nephews. WOOLEY, 84, BRICK TOWNSHIP Phillip R. Bertolino, 48, died Sunday at Paul Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Mr. Bertolino was born in Newark, where he lived in the Vailsburg section before moving to Brick Township 21 years ago. He was the owner of concessions on the Seaside Heights boardwalk.

Prior to that, he worked five years as a agent for Bel-Ray Co. purchasing Farmingdale, and 10 years as a restaurant manager for W.T. Grant, Brick Township. Mr. Bertolino was a veteran of the Army, Marine Corps, and the Army National Guard, Toms River.

He was a former member of the Italian-American Club, Brick Township. Mr. Bertolino was a communicant of the Roman Catholic Church of the Visitation, Brick Township. Surviving are his wife, the former Joanne Lies; two sons, Phillip Jr. and Troy; and a daughter, Tracy, all at home; and his mother, Frieda Bertolino, here.

Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, Brick Township, is in charge of arrangements. THOMAS E. SULLIVAN, 76; of Brick Township died yesterday at Point Pleasant Hospital. Mr. Sullivan was born in New York City and lived in Hoboken most of his life before moving to Brick Township 25 years ago.

He retired in 1959 as a fare collector for the Erie Railroad, Jersey City, where he worked for 36 years. Surviving are a daughter, Arlene Gillespie, Randolph Township; a sister, Blanche Fuardo, Brick Township; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. FROEHLICH, 74, of Toms River died Sunday at Community Memorial Hospital, Toms River. Mrs. Froehlich was born in Newark and lived in Maplewood most of her life. She lived in Rahway and Silver Bay Point, Silverton, Dover Township, before moving to the Holiday City West, Berkeley Township. Surviving is her husband, Ernest.

Herbert was born in Newark and lived in West Orange before moving to Berkeley Heights 15 years ago. She retired from Prudential Insurance Newark. Her husband, William, died in 1974. Surviving are two sons, Robert, Hackettstown, and Donald, the Basking Ridge, Bernards Township; three daughters, Joyce Ramsland, West Orange, Muriel Pless, Toccoa, and Marion Herzok, Malvern, 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
