Asbury Park Jan. 9, 1981 Obituaries See SERVICES for additional details on some obituaries. ROBERT C. SCHENCK EATONTOWN Robert C. Schenck, a driver employed by the federal government, died Wednesday at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, of injuries received Tuesday in an auto accident.

Police said the car he was driving struck a utility pole at Seventh and Joline avenues, Long, Branch. Schenck was 58 and lived on Country Club Road. He was born in Jamaica, N.Y, and had lived here 45 years. He was a driver in the motor pool at Fort Monmouth. Mr.

Schenck was a Navy veteran of World War I and a retired member of the New Jersey National Guard. Surviving are his wife, the former Doris Farler; a son, Robert Asbury Park; a daughter, Miss Cynthia Schenck, Long Branch; three brothers, Howard and Sammy, Staten Island, and Elroy, Neptune; three sisters, Mrs. Josephine Stevens, McKeesport, and Mrs. Blanche Roberts and Mrs. Irma Biddle, both Asbury Park, and four grandchildren.

The James H. Hunt Funeral Home, Asbury Park, is in charge of arrangements. CESARE SALERNO LONG BRANCH Cesare Salerno, a retired tailor, died Wednesday at Monmouth Medical Center. He was 91 and lived on Winter Street. He was born in Italy and lived here 60 years.

Mr. Salerno retired 26 years ago. He played the tuba with the Asbury Park Symphony Orchestra for 30 years before retiring in 1970. Mr. Salerno was a communicant of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, here, and a member of its Holy Name Society.

He was a member and had served as president for 13 years of the Order Sons of Italy. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council, here. His wife, Leonilda Mazza Salerno, died in 1974. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Angelina Ekert and Mrs.

Inez Ruggero, both Orlando, Mrs. Gina Trincellito, Palm Bay, and Mrs. Sylvia Tomaini, here, 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. The Damiano Funeral Home, here, is in charge of arrangements. JOSEPH M.

GALL AMARILLO, TEXAS Joseph M. Gall, 48, a former resident of Perth Amoby, N.J., died here Wednesday. He worked as a supervisor of supply and services for the Asarco Copper factory, where he belonged to the 25-year club. Mr. Gall was a communicant of St.

Hyacinth Roman Catholic Church and a member of its Knights of Columbus Council, both here. He was a member of the St. George Catholic Club and St. Matthew's Jenota Society, both Perth Amboy. He was an Army veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Arlene; four brothers, Michael Gall, Brielle, N.J., Jerome Gall and Gerard Gall, both Perth Amboy, and the Rev. Florian Gall, Bound Brook, N.J., and a sister, Lucille Gall, and his father, Michael L. Gall, both Perth Amboy. The Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, here, are in charge of arrangements. MRS.

CHARLES J. O'NEILL EATONTOWN Anna C. O'Neill, 89, of Campbell Drive, died yesterday at Monmouth Convalescent Center, Long Branch. She was born in New York and lived most of her life in Long Branch before moving here 11 years ago. Mrs.

O'Neill was a communicant of Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch, and a former member of its Altar and Rosary Society and PTA. She was a member of the Hobart Manor Senior Citizens, Long Branch. Her husband was the late Charles J. O'Neill. Surviving are two nieces, Mrs.

Mildred Van Brunt, West Long Branch, and Mrs. Ann Bilger, Long Branch; a nephew, Francis E. Capel, Long Branch, and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Jean O'Neill Snyder, with whom she lived. The Flock Funeral Home, Long Branch, is in charge of arrangements.

MRS. ROSE EMMONS BARONE NEPTUNE Rose Emmons Barone, a retired machine operator, died yesterday at Jersey Shore Medical Center after a long illness. She was 60 and lived on 10th Avenue. She was a lifelong resident here. Before retiring, Mrs.

Barone worked as a nachine operator at the Roxanne of N.J. bathing suit company, here. Her husband, Joseph, died in 1971. Surviving are three sons, Joseph Neptune City, James, here, and Patrick, song Branch; three daughters, Rosemarie and Linda, both at home, and Ann, Asbury Park; a sister, Mrs. Irene Spagnolia, Belmar; a brother, Lloyd Emmons, Lodi, and seven grandchildren.

The Francioni, Taylor Lopez Funeral Home, here, is in charge of arrangements. MRS. JOHNNIE MASON MATAWAN Johnnie Mason, 83, of lighfield Avenue, died Wednesday at Bayhore Community Hospital, Holmdel Townhip. She was born in Bartow, and lived were for 45 years. Mrs.

Mason was a member of the Second Baptist Church, here. Her husband, LLoyd Mason, died in 1977. Surviving are two grandsons, Robert Massy, here, and Roger Ross, New York, und two granddaughters, Ms. Jackie Jackcon, Red Bank, and Ms. Rita John, Altade1a, Calif.

'The James H. Hunt Funeral Home, Asbury Park, is in charge of arrangements. F. William Sutton, 63; partner in law firm, retired bank officer home. He was 63 and was a lifelong resident here.

Mr. Sutton retired in 1978 as chairman of the board of the First National Bank of Toms River. He was also the senior partner in the law firm of Sutton, Ward, Sutton and Heim, here. Mr. Sutton had been affiliated with the First National Bank of Toms River SUTTON MRS.

VIOLA W. DUNHAM TOMS tired banker RIVER F. William Sutton, a reand lawyer, died yesterday at SUTTON LAKEWOOD Viola W. Dunham, a retired secretary, died yesterday at Paul Kimball Hospital after a brief illness. She was 85 and lived at Leisure Village.

She was born in Somerville and lived in Westfield before moving here in 1976. Mrs. Dunham retired in 1960 after 42 years as secretary to the president of the Suburban Trust Westfield. She was a member and past president of the Auxiliary of Martin Walberg Post 3, American Legion, Westfield. She had held various state offices in the American Legion Auxiliary.

Mrs. Dunham was the dispatcher for the Westfield Rescue Squad for many years. During World War II, she served with the Red Cross as a Gray Lady at Camp Kilmer, Piscatway Township. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Westfield. Her husband, Ernest, died in France during World War I.

Surviving are three cousins. The Gray Funeral Home, Westfield, is in charge of arrangements. MRS. ROSE GUBITOSA WEST NEPTUNE CITY Rose Strano Gubitosa West, 86, of Neptune Avenue, died Wednesday at the Medi-Center. She was born in New York and lived here most of her life.

Mrs. West was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Asbury Park. Her first husband, Ambrose Gubitosa, died in 1950. Her second husband was the late Edward West. Surviving are two sons, Albert Gubitosa and Salvatore Gubitosa, both Ocean Township; two daughters, Mrs.

Florina Giacchetto, Neptune, and Mrs. Geraldine D'Augostino, here; a brother, Edward Strano, Asbury Park, 13 grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren. The Francioni, Taylor Lopez Funeral Home, Asbury Park, is in charge of arrangements. A. HERBERT HUGHES LACEY TOWNSHIP A.

Herbert Hughes, retired director of physical property at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Philadelphia, died Wednesday at Helene Fuld Medical Center, Trenton. He was born in Lawrence Township and moved here in 1978. Mr. Hughes retired in 1978. He was a member of Cyrus Lodge, Pennington, and a member and past commander of the Skippers Club of New Jersey.

Surviving are his wife, the former Thelma Walker; a son, Richard A. Hughes, East Windsor Township; two stepsons, Melvin Walker, Wilmington, and Gary Walker, Hopewell Township; a brother, Merle A. Hughes, Trenton, and a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Senbach, Hopewell Township. The A.S.

Cole Funeral Home, Cranbury Township, is in charge of arrangements. RAYMOND R. DICKSON LONG BRANCH Raymond R. Dickson, a retired school crossing guard, died Wednesday at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. He was 68 and lived on Lippincott Avenue.

He was born in Eatontown and lived here 40 years. Mr. Dickson retired in 1978 after 10 years as a school crossing guard here. He was a former captain of the Branchport Hose Co. and a member of Lodge 742, BPO Elks, both here.

His wife, the former Mary Pollitt, died in 1955. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Olive McCabe, Neptune; a brother, Van Dyke, Missouri; a sister, Mrs. Alida Larson, here, and four grandchildren. The Woolley Funeral Home, here, is in charge of arrangements.

CARL B. PETERSON RUMSON Carl B. Peterson, 93, died Wednesday at the New Ivy House Nursing Home, Middletown Township. He was born in Stockholm, Sweden, and lived in Massachusetts before moving here in 1953. Mr.

Peterson retired in 1953 after 30 years with the Navy Department, Chelsea, Mass. He was a member of the Old Guard, Red Bank, and a life member of Palestine Lodge, Everett, Mass. His wife, Hulda Peterson, died in 1978. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Hertha Shaw, here, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The Adams Memorial Home, Red Bank, is in charge of arrangements. MRS. HENRIETTA E. CAULK TINTON FALLS Henrietta E. Caulk, 89, of Heritage Hall, died here Wednesday.

She was born in Wilmington, and moved here four years ago. Mrs. Caulk was a communicant of Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, New Castle, Del. Surviving are three grandchildren. The Krienen Griffith Funeral Home, New Castle, is in charge of arrangements.

MRS. KATE BRANN OCEAN GROVE Kate Brann, 95, died yesterday at the Ocean Grove Nursing Home. She was born in Plymouth, England, and lived in East Orange before moving here six years, ago. Brann was a member of Roseville Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Newark. Her husband was the late Maurice.

Surviving are a son, Kenneth G. Crocker, Neptune, three grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. Francioni, Taylor Lopez Funeral Home, 1 Neptune, is in charge of arrangements. MRS. MARION H.

POTTER TOMS RIVER Marion H. Potter, 59, died yesterday at Community Memorial Hospital. She was born in Elizabeth and lived most of her life in Westfield before coming here in 1965. Surviving are her husband, Charles; her stepmother, Mrs. Benjamin Warne; three sons, Charles here, Rhett, Elizabeth, and Beau, Germany; two brothers, William, Howell Township, and Richard, Westfield; a sister, Mrs.

Louise Balys, Rahway, and two grandchildren. The Anderson Campbell Funeral Home, here, is in charge of arrangements. MILLSTONE TOWNSHIP Filomena D. Scotto, 88, of Stillhouse Road, Perrineville, died Wednesday at Freehold Area Hospital, Freehold Township. She was born in Italy and lived in Brooklyn before moving here 35 years ago.

Mrs. Scotto was a communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Perrineville. Her husband, Michele, died in 1950. Surviving are three sons, Frank and Anthony, both Perrineville, and 'Dominick, Hollywood, a daughter, Mrs.

Mary Puglisi, Howell Township; a brother, Antonio Costagliola, Fusaro, Italy, 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, is in charge of arrangements. MRS. ROSE SCHOBER FREEHOLD Rose Schober, 85, died Wednesday at Freehold Area Hospital, Freehold Township. She lived in Newark before moving here 12 years ago.

Mrs. Schober was a member of the Silver Lake Baptist Church, Newark. Surviving are her husband, Fred; a brother, David Pucilla, Florida, and a sister, Lydia Messina, Nutley. The Hoppings Funeral Home, Livingston, is in charge of arrangements. Alexander Kotov, chess grandmaster MRS.

FILOMENA D. SCOTTO MOSCOW Chess grandmaster Alexander Kotov died yesterday "after a short illness," the official news agency Tass reported. He was 67. Mr. Kotov emerged among the world's strongest players during the years 1948 to 1952, placing fourth at the first interzonal tournament in 1948, Tass said.

The same year he scored his greatest success in the Soviet championships, sharing first place with David Bronshtein. Mr. Kotov became an international grandmaster in 1949-50 and was named an international referee in 1951. He was chief referee of the World Chess Olympics in Nice in 1974. Mr.

Kotov was a member of the Soviet team at the 10th and 11th chess Olympics, and also participated in various international chess matches. He wrote several books on chess and had just concluded script work on a film about another Soviet chess player, Alexander Alekhine, Tass said. Sutton was a member of the Ocean County and American bar associations. He was a member and past commodore of the Toms River Yacht Club and a member of the Toms River Country Club. Mr. Sutton served on the Board of Trustees of Ocean County College and the Board of Directors of the Ocean County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
