ASBURY PARK PRESS I FRIDAY, OCT. 29,2004 OBITUARIES RIES JOHN A. NIGRO, 89, of KEYPORT, died Thursday, Oct. 28, at Arnold Walter Nursing Home, Holmdel. He was a butcher with in Middletown and Cliffwood for 30 years, retiring in 1984.

He served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Keyport, and the Democratic Club of Monmouth County, Keyport, and an exempt member of Oak Shades Fire Department, Matawan, Aberdeen Township. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Born in Enfield, he was a long.

time resident of Keyport. He was predeceased by his wife, Yolanda Nigro, in 1992; his father, Michael Nigro; his mother, Fortuna Nigro Infanto; and brothers, Samuel, James and Robert Nigro. Surviving are his daughter, Ann Mayer of Keyport; a son and daughter-in-law, John M. and Susan Nigro of Hazlet; three sisters, Rosemarie Nigro-Fernandez, Nancy NigroLewicki and Margie Bednar, all of Whittier, a brother, Angelo Infanto of North Cape May; grandsons, Steven Mayer of Hazlet, and Robert Nigro of Hazlet; and a granddaughter, Marybeth Walsh of Union Beach. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m.

She was born June 23, 1926, in Kearny, to the late Robert and Ann Johnstone. She is survived by her husband, Robert W. Osborne of Sterling; sons, Mark F. Osborne, and his wife, Wanda, of Herndon, and Robert John Osborne, and his wife, Judy, of New Orleans, three grandchildren, Whitney, Emily and Molly Osborne, and one sister, Jesse Mac Donald of Spring Lake Heights. She also lived in Clark, and for the past 41 years, in Middletown. was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Elks Lodge in Red Bank. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond R. Bertolette; her brothers, James J. Mooney and Arthur Mooney; a sister, Mary Mooney; and her parents, Thomas Mooney and Catherine Parkes Mooney.

She is survived by her son, the Very Rev. Archimandrite Ephraem of Middletown; and a daughter, Madeleine C. Aiken of Long Branch. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the John F.

Letters of condolence may be e-mailed to KARL E. IPSEN, 67, of WEST LONG BRANCH, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 28, at home after a long battle with cancer.

He retired after 32 years as a senior director at the Fort Monmouth Electronic and Communication Command, where he utilized his two master's degrees in computer science and business administration. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army for three years. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Reformation, West Long Branch; Mensa; and the West Long Branch Leisure Club. He served as past president of the West Long Branch Lions Club.

An avid reader, he played classical guitar and enjoyed the theater. Born in Brooklyn, he lived in West Long Branch for 41 wonderful years with his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Egon and Frieda Ipsen, and his brother, Donald. Surviv- ing are his loving wife of 41 years, Marie Ciambrone Ipsen; and two sons and daughte law, Robert and Joan Ipsen of New York City; and Richard and Denise Ipsen of Eatontown. He was specially adored by his three grandchildren, Karli, Jack and Clara.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31, at Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave. on the corner of Third Avenue, Long Branch. The funeral will be held at 9 a.m.

07740 3869 MARION M. MC CARTHY-SEXTON, 92, of Bordentown, formerly of FREEHOLD, died peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 26. Born on Feb. 10, 1912, Marion was the daughter of John and Jane Gleason McCarthy of Freehold.

Her beloved husband, the late Robert L. Sexton, died in 1986. She was also predeceased by her beloved brothers, Robert and Thomas McCarthy. A resident of Bordentown since 1958, Marion grew up on the family farm on Sweetman's Lane and graduated from Douglass College, Rutgers University, in 1933. A dedicated teacher, Marion enjoyed her years with the Shrewsbury and Freehold school districts.

A devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and aunt, Marion also enjoyed traveling with her husband, nature, and gardening, and she was proud of her Irish ancestry through the McCarthy, Gleason, Broderick and King families. She was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Bordentown, and St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold. Marion's passing is deeply regretted by her family and friends.

Surviving are her loving son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Kim; and her two grandchildren, Ryan and Courtney. Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the HuberMoore Funeral Home, 517 Farnsworth Bordentown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St.

died at his home in Friendship, Maine, on Wednesday, Oct. 27, with his family by his side. He was born Nov. 30, 1908, in Spring Lake, the so of Charles and 1 a Sprague Runyon. He graduated from Man- asquan High School in the Class of 1925.

He was married to Magdalena Mueller on Dec. 11, 1932. Mr. Runyon worked with his wife's family to create a wholesale flower -growing business with farms in New Jersey, North Carolina and Florida. After the death of his wife's father in 1936, he helped his mother-in-law and acted as a surrogate father to the 14 children who remained at home.

He owned and managed Mueller's Florist, a retail flower business in Manasquan. He was a member and past president of the New Jersey Flower Growers Association. With his son Ed, he founded Aquatic Services, a water quality treatment company. Another interest in retirement was raising rabbits, pheasants, pigs, and goats. His grandsons and granddaughter have many fond memories of helping him in his varied enterprises.

He was a founding member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Manasquan and was active on the church council, organizing a building drive for a new parish hall and renovation of the sanctuary in the 1950's. He was a lifelong fisherman, hunter and sportsman, hunting in Newfoundland, Wyoming, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey with his sons and grandsons. On Election Day, 1988, he and his wife and son moved to their new home overlooking the Friendship Back River in Maine. He continued to garden in his home greenhouse, growing orchids, poinsettias, geraniums and other favorite flowers. The Runyon garden was a source of vegetables for area food pantries.

He and his family became members of Nativity Lutheran Church in Rockport, Maine. Mr. Runyon transferred his baseball allegiance to the Boston Red Sox, and was expecting their post-season victory as World Champions at the time of his death. He was predeceased by a brother, Fred Runyon; a sister, Margaret Kreiss, and a daughterin-law, Kathleen Brady Runyon. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Magdalena Mueller Runyon, and his son George Henry Runyon of Friendship, Maine.

He was the loving father of one daughter, Caroline Runyon Zuber, whose husband is William, of Friendship, and two other sons, Robert M. Runyon whose wife is Prudence, of Manchester, and Edwin C. Runyon of Howell. Also surviving are a sister, Anne Fraley of New Jersey, and a brother, Edwin Runyon, of New Jersey. Mr.

Runyon was the friend and loving grandfather of seven grandchildren, William H. Zuber III, and his wife, Margo, of Rockland, Robert R. Zuber of Washington, D.C.; Andrew F. Zuber and his wife, Nirvana, of South Bristol, Maine; Robert M. Runyon III of Radnor, Scott P.

Runyon of Raleigh, N.C.; Edwin C. Runyon Jr. of Howell, and Jeanne R. Newberry of Austin, Texas. He was the stepgrandfather of Colleen and Erin Brady of Howell.

The great joys of Mr. Runyon's later years were his four great grandchildren, Sara and Isaac Zuber of Rockland, Maine, and Benjamin and Liam Zuber of South Bristol, Maine. 27, at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Pittsburgh, he lived in Eatontown for past 20 years. He retired from the Army in 1984 after serving many years, living mostly overseas. He was an engineer for the Titan working at Fort Monmouth in Eatontown. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jacqueline Segrist Strain; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas David and Melissa Strain of Cincinnati; and one sister, Pamela Carruthers of Reading, Pa.

There is no visitation. A memorial service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23 at The Main Post Chapel at Fort Monmouth, Eatontown. Memorial donations to the VNA Hospice, 141 Bodman Place, Red Bank, NJ 07701, are preferred.

BETTY L. COOK VERNON of TINTON FALLS died on Oct. 27 in Tinton Falls, at age 87, following a lengthy illness. She was a native of Wilmington, and lived most of her life there. Her husband of 61 years, Norman P.

Vernon died in 2001. Mrs. Vernon was born in Wilmington in 1917, the daughter of Marie Farrell Cook and John Thomas Cook; she attended local schools and Drexel University. Following their marriage in 1940, the Vernons moved during World War II near DuPont locations in Niagara Falls, N.Y., and New Martinsville, W.Va., in support of the war effort. Upon their later return to Wilmington and DuPont 1 headquarters, the family lived in Wawaset Park for over 40 years.

She was a devoted wife and mother and was quick to help friends in need. She was known for her kindness and gracious hospitality. She is survived by her three children, Mary Beth V. Conaway and her husband Jack R. of Westport, Norman P.

Vernon Jr. and his wife Susan C. of Hudson, Ohio; and Barbara V. Schwan and her husband Ronald G. of Middletown; three grandchildren, Christopher V.

Conaway, Sr. and his wife Jeanne-Marie; Timothy Edward Conaway and his wife Tisha and Zachary Brian Schwan. Her grandson Andrew Vernon Schwan predeceased her. Three great grandchildren, Victoria Christopher Vernon and Alexander Christian Conaway, also survive her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St.

WALSH, 81, of MIDDLETOWN, died Thursday, Oct. 28, at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living, Middletown. He was a warehouseman with RCA, Clark, and then with Baxter Industries, Raritan Center, for a total of 47 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Hazlet and Holy Family Seniors; Knights of Columbus at St. Clement's; and National Fife and Drum Corps, Newark.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Parish, Keyport, until 1974, and St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel, from 1974 until his death. He was also an usher at St. Benedict's Church.

He was a "great guy." Born in Elizabeth, he lived in Shadow Lake Village, Middletown, Hazlet and Roselle before moving to Brighton Gardens Assisted Living four months ago. He was predeceased by his wife, M. Alice Walsh, in 2004, and 12 brothers and sisters. Surviving are his sons, John D. Walsh of Princeton, and Joseph D.

Watson lived in Hazlet for nine years and was previously from North Babylon, N.Y., and Parsippany. Mr. Watson was a communicant of St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. He was predeceased by his father, James Watson.

Surviving are his wife of 19 years, Joanne McCabe Watson; daughters, Siobhan Watson and Hannah Watson, both of Hazlet; his mother, Dorothy Watson of Lakewood; a sister, Donna Castano of Toms River; his mother-in-law, Joannah McCabe; his father-in-law, John McCabe; and brothers-in-law, Michael McCabe and Robert McCabe. 27 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in New York City, Mr. Winters lived in North Bergen, moving to Hazlet 30 years ago. He was a diesel mechanic for 50 years, retiring 14 years ago. His last employment was with Maislin Transport, Kearny, for 15 years.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marines. He was a member of the VFW Post 4303, West Keansburg, and VFW Post 4745 of Cliffwood Beach. Surviving are his wife, Sharon McVey Winters; three sons, Wayne Winters of Ocean Gate, Shawn Winters of Rutland, and Harold Scott Winters of Hazlet; a daughter and her husband, Shannon and Rusty Anderson of Barnegat; three brothers; a sister-in-law, Ruth Kummer of Middletown; a brother-in-law and his wife, Charles and Elaine McVey; three granddaughters, Colleen, Cassidy, Caitlin Anderson, and many family members and friends. OCEAN MARION LUCILLE "MEMA" ARCHY, 76, of BARNEGAT, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, at Southern Ocean County Hospital, Stafford. Born in Perth Amboy, she was formerly of Fords, and lived in Edison for 40 years before residing in Barnegat for the past 15 years.

She was employed by the following: Merck of Rahway, Tide Cleaners of Woodbridge, Alexanders of Menlo Park Mall, Edison, then Brooks Bros. Clothing Store, also of Edison. She attended Woodbridge High School and graduated from Middlesex County College in 1986 with a degree in marketing. She was a member of AARP; a life member of Grace Lutheran Church, Perth Amboy; and a charter member of the Joy Lutheran Church of Barnegat. She provided coffee for the Joy Lutheran Church Fellowship for 10 years with a loving heart.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gilbert, in 1976. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ellen Miller and her husband, William; a granddaughter, Carolyn; a brother, Fred Christensen and his wife, Shirley; two nephews, Gary and Donald; also many friends and loving neighbors.
