Staples Shrewsbury Bertha Zelnick Cranbury Township MONMOUTH William Bearchell, composed hymns, ASBURY PARK Lt. Col. William E. Bearchell, a Salvation Army officer and composer of inspirational music, died Friday at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. He was 85.

Lt. Col. Bearchell was born in DE SAL Deseronto, OntarVA io. He came to the United States when he was two years old. He lived in Asbury Park for the past 19 years.

He graduated from the Salvation BEARCHELL Army School for Officers' Training in New York City and was commissioned an officer in 1921. He served in various appointments throughout the eastern region of the United States, including West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York City and Boston. He retired from active duty in 1964. A musician of note, he composed and arranged a number of hymns and marches. He was bandmaster of the renowned Salvation Army New York Staff Band.

He served as a pianist for the Asbury Park Citadel Corps, where he was a member. He also was a member of the Salvation Army Retired Officers League. Surviving are his wife, the former Robina J. Ladlow; twin sons, Robert E. and Capt.

(Dr. William) Bearchell; a sister, Mrs. Alice Atkinson, Pittsburgh, eight grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. The Ely Funeral Home, Asbury Park, is in charge of arrangements. SERVICES BEATTY Marion 82, of Greenbriar, Brick Township, N.J., died on Apr.

Mon. In lieu flowers, donations to the Church of the Visitation would be deeply appreciated. OBITUARIES James W. Staples; a banker 52 years SHREWSBURY James W. Staples, 79, died Friday at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank.

Mr. Staples worked for National City Bank, New York. He then worked at the Colonial First National Bank, Tinton Falls, before retiring seven years ago as an assistant cashier and manager. He worked in the banking industry for 52 years before his retirement. He was born in New York.

He lived in Fair Lawn 1 before moving to Shrewsbury 34 years ago. He was a member of the City Bank Quarter Century Club. He was past president of the Shrewsbury Community Appeal. He was vice president of the Shrewsbury PTA. He was also a former member of the Shrewsbury Industrial Committee and had served on the Shrewsbury board of health.

He was active in the Red Bank Chapter of Deborah and was an assistant financial secretary and life member of the Deborah Heart Lung Center, Pemberton Township. He was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Surviving are his wife, the former Vivian McSherry; a daughter, Holly Ann Quhn, Red Bank, and two granddaughters. The Adams Memorial Home, Red Bank, is in charge of arrangements.

WILLIAM C. KORTJOHN, 74, of Middletown Township, died Friday at his home. Mr. Kortjohn was born in New York City. He lived in Jersey City most of his life, coming to Middletown Township 15 years ago.

He was formerly employed at Colgate Palmolive Co. in Jersey City as a maintenance supervisor. He retired about 15 years ago. He was past president of the American Association of Retired Persons, Chapter 1599. He was a member of the Leisure Club and the Advisory Board, both of Middletown Township.

He was a member of All Saints' Memorial Episcopal Church in the Navesink section of Middletown Township. Surviving are his wife, the former Jean Ross; three daughters, Jeanne Holpp, Middletown Township, Linda Sullivan, Denville Township, and Diane McKeever, Suffern, N.Y., and eight grandchildren. According to Mr. Kortjohn's wishes, his body was donated to Rutgers School of Medical Research. mouth Medical Center, Long Branch.

Mr. Sacco was a retired gardener. He was born in San Pietro Apostolo, Italy. He lived in the Shore area most of his life. He was a communicant of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch.

Surviving are his wife, the former Anna Rosati; two daughters, Gloria Woolley, Oceanport, and Elvira Lovgren, Ocean Township; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Kahn was born in Russia and moved to the United States when she was an infant. She lived in Philadelphia before moving here. She was the widow of Dr. Bernard Kahn. Surviving are a daughter, Jeannette, West Palm Beach, and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Ricca was born in Italy and lived in New York City before moving to Long Branch in 1953. She was a communicant of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. She was known to her friends as Rose.

Her husband, Edward, died in 1981. Surviving are a son, Thomas, Hazlet Township; a daughter, Josephine Caruso, Long Branch; a brother, Peter Vella, Rialto, four sisters, Josephine Vassello and Nancy Cassaro, both of Orange, Jean Cicciarri, Los Angeles, and Beatrice Agro, Deer Park, N.Y., 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The Woolley Funeral Home, Long Branch, is in charge of arrangements. THOMAS A. LLOYD, 19, of Shrewsbury, died Thursday in Fort Myers, as the result of a boating accident.

Mr. Lloyd was born in Red Bank and lived in Shrewsbury most of his life. He was a construction worker for Bluff Condos, Red Bank. He was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank.

He was a 1984 graduate of Red Bank Regional High School, where he played on the varsity football team. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lloyd, Shrewsbury; two brothers, Danny and Brian, both at home; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Grace Scarpone, Middletown Township; and his paternal grandparents, Mr.

and Mrs. Alfred Lloyd, Toms River. The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, is in charge of arrangements. SADIE FAULHABER MC CLELLAND, 87, of Neptune, died Friday at the Ocean Grove Nursing Home.

Mrs. McClelland was born in Freehold. She lived in Ocean Grove most of her life. She was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the O'Brien-Major VFW Post 2639, Neptune. Her husband, Robert died in 1982.

Surviving are two sons, Robert Ocean Grove, and William Cheyenne, two daughters, Ruth M. Bush, Ocean Grove, and Shirley M. Stouffer, Hightstown; a brother, William Faulhaber, Asbury Park, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The Ocean Grove Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements. HELEN CHILIKAS, 79, of Asbury Park, died yesterday at the Neptune Conva-Center.

Mrs. Chilikas worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance New York, before retiring 17 years ago. She was born in Greece. She lived in New York before moving to the Shore area 10 years ago. She was a member of St.

George Greek Orthodox Church, Asbury Park and the Ladies' Philoptochos Society of the church. Her husband, Nicholas, died in 1979. Surviving are a son, Thomas, Murray, a daughter, Florence Pascal, Asbury Park; two sisters, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The Francioni, Taylor Lopez Funeral Home, Asbury Park, is in charge of arrangements. IRENE CARASIA, 95, of Deal, died yesterday at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch.

Mrs. Carasia was born in Lauro, Italy. She lived in the Shore area most of her life. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court Holy Spirit 380, Asbury Park. She was a communicant of St, Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Deal.

Her husband, James, died in 1972. Surviving are a son, Canio, Deal; three grandchildren, and four greatgrandchildren. The Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch, is in charge of arrangements. PAULINE MC OWEN, 88, of Millstone Township, died Friday at her home. Mrs.

McOwen was born in Newark and lived there before moving to the Perrineville section of Millstone Township in 1962. Her husband, Douglas died in 1980. Surviving are two sons, Douglas, Owigsberg, and Homer, Howell Township; three daughters, Elizabeth Bahm, Virginia Bahm and Lorraine Palmer, all of Millstone Township; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. The C.H.T. Clayton Son Funeral Home, Adelphia section of Howell Township, is in charge of arrangements.

Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Mrs. Scipione was born in Teramo, Italy. She lived in Middletown Township before moving to Holmdel Township 13 years ago. She was a communicant of St.

Catharine's Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel Township. Her husband, Eugenio, died in 1963. Surviving is a son, Humbert, Holmdel Township; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Heulitt, bowling champion WALL TOWNSHIP Charles F. Heulitt a former Shore area bowling champion, died Friday at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Mr. Heulitt was born in Belmar and lived in Neptune City before moving here in 1951. He retired in 1962 as a self-employed building contractor after 38 years.

Mr. Heulitt was known in the 1940s and 1950s as one of the top bowlers in the Shore Bowling League. His wife, Signe, died in 1971. Surviving are two sons, Charles F. Eatontown, and John W.

OCEAN Francis X. Lamb, electrical engineer BRICK TOWNSHIP Francis X. Lamb, 79, former vice president and chief engineer for Weston Electrical Instruments Corp, Newark, died Thursday at Lakeview Manor Nursing Home, Lakewood. Mr.

Lamb worked for the Weston Corp. for more than 40 years. He retired in 1963. During his career with Weston, he was granted more than 50 patents, all having to do with instrumentation and improving standards of accuracy. Through his efforts, Weston became the first corporation to qualify for the manufacture of electronic instruments for the Army Signal Corps.

During the late 1930s, he was resident engineer on assignment to Nippon Electrical Tokyo, where he was responsible for the design, development and production of quality instruments for the Japanese market. Prior to his retirement, he was appointed chairman of the American Standards Association on Electrical Measuring Instruments. He was born in Newark. He lived in East Orange most of his life before moving to Brick Township in 1973. He was a graduate of the Newark College of Engineering.

He was a member of the board of directors of the Breton Woods Property Owner's Association, Brick Township. He was a communicant of the Visitation Roman Catholic Church, Brick Township. Surviving are his wife, the former Christine Geisel; a son, Robert Toms River; three daughters, Janet Clarkson, Toms River, Marilyn Kozlowski, Union, and Nancy Ryan, Middletown Township; a brother, Anthony Newbury Park, and 13 grandchildren. The Van Hise Callagan Funeral Home, Brick Township, is in charge of arrangements. HAZEL W.

JOLINE, 71, of the Crestwood Village section of Manchester Township, died Friday at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune Township. Mrs. Joline was born in Philadelphia and lived most of her life in Drexel Hill, Pa. She lived in Staten Island, N.Y., and in Elmwood Park before coming to Manchester Township in 1971. Mrs.

Joline was a former Welcome Wagon hostess in Manchester Township. Surviving are her husband, M. Arthur Joline; two half brothers, Charles Weigold, Chadsford, and Calvin Weigold, Philadelphia, and a sister, Mrs. Louise Hickey, Connecticut. The Anderson Campbell Funeral Home, in the Whiting section of Manchester Township, is in charge of arrangements.

he Crestwood Village section of HENRY J. AUDESIRK, 77, of Manchester Township, died yesterday at Community Memorial Hospital, Toms River. Mr. Audesirk was born in Trenton, where he lived most of his life. He came to Manchester Township in 1977.

He was a switchman for the N.J. Bell Telephone Burlington County, was for a 26 member years, of the retiring N.J. in Bell 1956. nation phone Pioneers of America. Mr.

Audesirk was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8745, Manchester Township. Surviving are his wife, the former Elizabeth Burchell; two daughters, Mrs. Linda Binz, Trenton, and Mrs. Nora Watts, West Borough, two brothers, Frank, Florida, and Joseph, East Brunswick; two sisters, Miss Emma and Miss Mina, both Annapolis, and two grandchildren.

The Anderson Campbell Funeral Home, in the Whiting section of Manchester Township, is in charge of arrangements. RUTH A. HOFFMAN, 67, of Manchester Township, died Friday at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Mrs. Hoffman was born in New York.

She lived in Clifton and Aberdeen Township before moving to Manchester Township last year. Her husband, Joseph, predeceased her. Surviving are two sons, Richard, Bloomfield, and Robert, Seattle; two daughters, Patricia Bybel, Brick Township, and Marianne Rush, Bloomingdale; and four grandchildren. The Kedz Funeral Home, Toms River, is in charge of arrangements. Community Memorial Hospital, Toms River.

Mr. Sohn was a retired service station owner in Ridgefield Park. He was born in Ridgefield Park and lived there most of his life before moving to the Ortley Beach section of Dover Township. He was a member of the Ridgefield Park BPO Elks and a life member of the Ridgefield Park Fire Department. There are no known survivors.

The Kedz Funeral Home, Toms River, is in charge of arrangements. HOWARD A. SOHN, 80, of Dover Township, died November 24 at HERBERT V. DISNEY, 84, Kimball of Lakewood, died yesterday at Medical Center, Lakewood. Mr.

Disney was a self-employed civil engineer. He retired in 1972. He was born in Baltimore. He lived in Jersey City and Middletown Township before to moving to Leisure Village years ago. He was a member of the Middletown Reformed Church, Middletown Township.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He also served in the Naval Reserve following the war. a member of Mystic Brotherhood Lodge 21 Red Bank; the Hiram Chapter 1 Royal Arch Masons, the Field Council 12 Royal and Select Masters, and the Corson 1 Commandery 15 Knight Templar. He was also a member of the American Association of Scottish Rite and the Crescent Temple, both of Trenton. He was also a member of the Shrewsbury Priory 4.

He received the TTCH award from the Grand Encampment of Knights Templar last year. Surviving are his wife, the former Madge Hansbarger; a brother, Lloyd Parkville, and two sisters, Elizabeth D. Moore, Timonium, and Carolyn D. Brooks, Parkville. The John F.

Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown Township, is in charge of arrangements. BERTHA ZELNICK, 87, of Cranbury Township, died Friday at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Born in Russia, Mrs. Zelnick came to the United States in 1914. She lived in Irvington for 17 years before moving to the Toms River and Lakewood area in 1948.

She was a member of the Toms River Jewish Community Center and the Emma Lazarus Women's Association, Toms River. Surviving are two sons, Harvey Zelnick, East Brunswick Township, and Joseph Zelnick, Philadelphia; a daughter, Sylvia Reis, Cranbury Township, six grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren.
