64, Jackson Township George S. Hassler Funeral Home, Jackson which the film's star, Paul Newman, came to Mr. Jaeckel's aid as he was pinned underwater by a fallen tree. The film, directed by Newman and also starring Henry Fonda, was based on a novel by Ken Kesey about a family of loggers carving a living out of the Oregon woods. In 1991 and 1992, Mr.

Jaeckel regularly appeared on the syndicated TV series "Baywatch" as Lt Ben Edwards, a grizzled veteran who coordinated rescue activity. He also starred as Lt Martin Quirk from 1985 to 1987 on the ABC-TV detective series "Spenser For Hire," starring Robert Urich. Mr. Jaeckel appeared in "The Gunfighter" (1950), "Battleground" (1949), "Come Back, Little Sheba" (1952), "Platinum High School" (1960) "Town Without Pity" (1961) "Once Before I Die" (1965), and "The Green Slime" (1969). He also had roles in "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid" (1973), "Grizzly" (1976), "The Dark" (1979), "Cold River" (1982), "Starman" (1984), "Black Moon Rising" (1986) and "Delta Force 2" (1990).

FARRELL, 60, POINT PLEASANT, died Monday at Brick Hospital. He retired in 1994 as director of auditing at Carteret Federal Savings in Parsippany-Troy Hills Township.

Prior to that, he was senior vice president and chief financial officer at First National Bank of Toms River, controller of Central Jersey Bank in Freehold, controller of New York Bank for Savings, audit manager at NatWest Bank in Jersey City, and spent 18 years as an accountant with Peat Marwick Certified Public Accounts in New York City. Mr. Farrell was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the N.Y. and N.J. societies of CPAs, and also was a certified fraud examiner.

He was a communicant of St. Martha's Roman Catholic Church, Point Pleasant, and a 1958 graduate of Boston College, Chestnut Hill, Mass. Born and raised in Binghamton, N.Y., he moved to Point Pieasant 12 years ago. Surviving are his wife, Judy An-druss Farrell; four sons, Christopher, Fairfield, Michael, Cos Cob, Mark, Greenville, N.C, and Barton, Spring Lake; a daughter, Michele Farrell, Wall Township; a stepdaughter, Leigh Autenrieth, Point Pleasant; and four brothers, Dr. John, Geneva, N.Y., Dr.

HENDERSON, hawkin, STAFFORD TOWNSHIP, died Monday at Southern Ocean County Hospital, Manahawkin. She was past president of the Barnegat Township Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, a life member of the Barnegat Historical Society, and a member of Wrights Memorial Presbyterian Church, Barnegat. Mrs. Henderson was an air warden during World War II. Born in Columbia, Knowlton Township, she lived in Barnegat and Surf City before moving to Manahawkin three years ago.

Francis of Assisi Roman THE ASSOCIATED PRESS LOS ANGELES Pulled from a studio mailroom as a teen-ager, Richard Jaeckel became one of Hollywood's most durable character actors, playing soldiers, gangsters, lawmen and astronauts in 54 years before the camera. Mr. Jaeckel, nominated for best supporting actor in 1971 for "Sometimes a Great Notion," died of an undisclosed illness Saturday at the Motion Picture and Television Hospital, a spokeswoman said Monday. He was 70. From "The Dirty Dozen" to "Baywatch," the stocky, baby-faced Mr.

Jaeckel was never far from the camera. He was working in the mailroom at 20th Century Fox studios when he won a role as a teen-age Marine in "Guadalcanal Diary" in 1943. After serving in the Navy from 1944 to 1948, he played a young Marine again in "The Sands of Iwo Jima" with John Wayne. As a churlish sergeant in the 1967 movie "The Dirty Dozen," Surviving are her husband, Michael; two sons, Stanley and Mark W. Jakubiak of Chantilly, a daughter, Judy Schott, Readington Township; a sister, Pearl Kulmaczeski, Wilkes-Barre; five grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.

Wood Funeral Home, Tuckerton, is in charge of arrangements. ALBERTA. ORLANDO, 81, TOMS RIVER, died yesterday at Community Medical Center, Toms River. He was a self-employed contractor who owned and operated Orlando Contracting Co. from 1968 until retiring in 1974.

A World War II Army veteran, he was a communicant of St. Justin's Roman Catholic Church, Toms River, and a former member of American Legion Post 63, Bound Brook. Born in Bound Brook, he lived in South Bound Brook before moving to Toms River 32 years ago. Surviving are his wife, Anna Bo-hanno Orlando; two daughters, Carole Ann Jennings, Lacey Township, and LaVine Reynolds, South Bound Brook; a sister, Pauline Isenman, Florida; five grandchildren and a great-grandson. JOHN H. KURTZ, 87, Holiday City South, BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, died yesterday at Community Medical Center, Toms River. He was a line technician for 46 years with New Jersey Bell Telephone Co. in Newark, retiring in 1975. Mr.

Kurtz was a communicant of St. Maximilian Kolbe Roman Catholic Church, Toms River, a member of the Telephone Pioneers, Millburn, and the Holiday City South Men's Club. Born in Exeter, N.H., he lived in South Orange and Island Heights before moving to Berkeley in 1991. He was predeceased by his wife, Violet Bery-Walsh Kurtz, and a daughter, Natalie Caldera. ARTHUR LOCKWOOD, 63, BRICK TOWNSHIP, died Monday at Brick Hospital. He was self-employed and owned Intercontinental Machinery Sales in Brick for the past two years. Born in the Bronx, he lived in Washington and Ridgefield Park before moving to Brick three years ago. Surviving are his wife, Beryl Lutz Lockwood; two sons, Stephen, Col-lingswood, and Kenneth Machlin-Lockwood, Teaneck Township; two brothers, Pat Lockwood, Point Pleasant, and Kenneth Davie, Hanacroix, N.Y.; and five grandchildren. JOHN F. Of MATAWAN who died Sunday, is survived by a daughter, Reed Newberry, Greenwich, Conn. She was listed incorrectly Monday in the Asbury Park Press. KATHLEEN TIERNEY SCHETTINO, 49, MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP, who died Saturday, is also survived by her mother, Gloria Rice, Hazlet Township. Rice's name was omitted from an obituary yesterday in the Press.

He revived the character in the film's made-for-television sequel, "The Dirty Dozen: Next Mission" in 1985. "Sometimes a Great Notion" included an unforgettable scene in 1985. Prior to that, he was a bus driver for six years at NJ.

A Korean War Navy veteran who was awarded the National Defense Service Ribbon, he was a member of AMVETS Post 2, Jackson, American Legion Post 166, Lakewood, a charter member of Elks Lodge 2744, Jackson, a founding member of Cub Scout Pack 104 at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Jackson, and a former coach in the Jackson Little League. Born in Newark, he lived in Howell Township before moving to Jackson in 1968. Surviving are his wife, Emily Naza-ras Palumbo; a son, Peter J.

She was a hairdresser and owned Millicent's Beauty Salon in Union for 40 years, retiring 25 years ago.

Mrs. Prozillo was a member of the Deborah Foundation, the Melo-deers and the Galloping Hill Golf Club, both of Union. Born in Newark, she lived in Union before moving to Toms River 14 years ago. Surviving are a son, William E. Be-lott; a daughter, Jacqueline M.

Surviving are a son, William Clifton; a daughter, Catherine A. D'Am-brosio, Bayville; two sisters, Martha Mulcahey of Florida, and Agnes Harrison, Paterson; and three grandchildren. Mastapeter Funeral Home, Berkeley, is in charge of arrangements. JAMES R. RICHARDS, 56, Cornelius, N.C, whose son lives in BRICK TOWNSHIP, died Saturday at Caro-linas Medical Center, Charlotte, N.C.

Mr. Richards was a Navy veteran. Born in Essex County, he lived in North Carolina for many years. Surviving are his wife, Joyce Rehm Richards; a son, Scott Brick; a daughter, Sheryl Montross, King, N.C; and three grandsons.
