MORRIS M. FIDEL, 88, West Orange, who has two daughters in MONMOUTH COUNTY, died yesterday at Daughters of Israel Geriatric Center. He owned and operated iiicount Furniture in Newark for 10 years, retiring 27 years ago. THE ASSOCIATED PRESS LOS ANGELES Alfred Sheinwold, one of the foremost experts on bridge whose syndicated columns on the card game appeared in 200 newspapers, including the Asbury Park Press, died Saturday after suffering a stroke. He was 85.

The London native often referred to as the "King of Bridge" also wrote 13 best-selling books on the game. He said he began playing bridge "to escape dull philosophy lectures" while a student at the City College of New York. Despite his penchant for cutting classes and playing cards, he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in economics. But he soon was hooked on bridge. "It was better than any game I'd come across," he told the Los An lived; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Edward Mills Purcell, a Nobel laureate whose discovery of nuclear magnetic resonance in 1945 yielded maps of distant galaxies and detailed medical images of the human body, died Friday. He was 84. A Harvard University physicist emeritus, he shared the 1952 Nobel Prize with Felix Bloch of Stanford for their independent discovery of magnetic fields in atomic nuclei.

The two scientists found that any nucleus with an odd number of protons and neutrons hydrogen, phosphorus, sodium, and many Surviving are two sons, Joshua and Kevin at home; her parents, Drew M. MORLEY, 50, NEPTUNE, died yesterday at home after a long illness. She was a registered nurse who worked in the trauma department at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, for the past 13 years. She attended Montclair State College and was a graduate of the Charles E. Gregory School of Nursing at Perth Amboy General Hospital. Born and raised in Wales, she lived in Asbury Park before moving to Neptune in 1984.

Surviving are her husband, Russell; two daughters, Heather Beimler, Cape Coral, and Jessica Beimler, at home; her parents, Reginald and Geraldine Guliford Leedham, Bush-kill, a sister, Marsha Nordstrom, West Caldwell; and a granddaughter. O'Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township, is in charge of arrangements. JOHN JOSEPH MULVIHILL, 70, ABERDEEN TOWNSHIP, died Saturday at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. He was a composing room supervisor for 40 years with the New York Daily News, retiring in 1986. Mr.

Mulvihill was a communicant of St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel Township, a World War II Navy veteran and a member of Amvets. Born in Brooklyn, he lived in Hazlet Township before moving to Aberdeen 25 years ago. Surviving are his wife, Beatrice McCabe Mulvihill; and a son, Peter Washington, D.C. THE REV. DR. SAMUEL C. PATTERSON, 89, Gillette, Passaic Township, who summered in ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS died Saturday at home. He was pastor of the Gillette Chapel, which he founded nearly 50 years ago, and he also worked for 38 years at Weston Electric in Newark.

Dr. Patterson was founder and president of the Long Hill Youth Center, served as chaplain for the Gillette Police Department, created the Gillette Chapel Band, and was a Red Cross volunteer. Born in Newark, he moved to Gillette 64 years ago. His first wife, Myrtle, died in 1939, his second wife, Carolyn who died in 1973, and he was predeceased by a daughter, Ruth Finn. Surviving are four daughters, Lorraine Hellyer, Gillette, Lois Stortz, Stirling, Thelma Pickell, Pohatcong, and Karen Ledder, Highlands; a brother, Stanford East Rutherford; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a great-greatgrandchild.

Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, Bernards Township, is in charge of arrangements. PEDRO PEREZ, 66, FREEHOLD, died Friday at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was a maintenance worker for a petroleum company in Puerto Rico, retiring two years ago. Born in Puerto Rico, he moved to Freehold six months ago. His son, Anjel, predeceased him.

Surviving are his wife, Zoc Ramirez Perez; three sons, Jay, Freehold, Pedro and Lemuel of Puerto' Rico; four daughters, Elba of Ohio, Ruth, Minerva and Margarete of Puerto Rico; three brothers, Pedro, Jesus and Marcelino of Puerto Rico; five sisters, Irene Carofola, Brick Township, Ra-feala Sanchez, Howell Township, Per-fecta Carhajal, Belmar, Anjelina and Juana Perez of Puerto Rico; and 16 grandchildren. D'Elia Funeral Home, Last year, he was inducted into the Bridge Hall of Fame in Plula-' delphia. He won hundreds of bridge tour-, naments, including the North American Open Team Champion-" ship, the North American Men's Championship and the North American Mixed Pair Championship. He was the captain of teams that represented North America in international contests in 1975, 1985 and 1989. His team won 'the world championship in 1985, and took second in 1975.

During World War II, he served in the Office of Strategic Services, -the forerunner of the CIA, as head of cryptographic security. Plainfield, retiring 13 years ago. He was the treasurer, a former president, one of the organizers and a 40-year member of the Brick First Aid Squad, a member of the N.J. First Aid Council, and a former chairman, vice president, and supply chairman of its First District, and currently served as chaplain of the 15th District. Born in the Bronx, he lived in Brick before moving to Belmar in 1960. His first wife, Garnet M.

JOHN 0. TANNE, 90, Newark, formerly MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP, died yesterday at Kutz Nursing Home, Wilmington, Del. He was a maintenance worker for 39 years at Merck Inc. in Rahway, retiring in 1968. Mr.

Tanne was a communicant of St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, Middletown, and was an Army veteran. Born in Warsaw, Poland, he lived in Brooklyn, Clark Township, Linden and Woodbridge Township before moving to Middle-town in 1974. He moved to Delaware 2V2 years ago. His wife, Victoria Ciolek Tanne, died in 1987.

GRAMAN, 87, River Plaza, MIDDLETOWN, died Sunday at home. He was an electrical appliances salesman for 52 years. He owned Graman's Vacuum Appliances Co. in Red Bank from 1958 until retiring in 1980. Prior to that, he was a salesman for Appliances, Red Bank, served in the Coast Guard during World War II, and was a salesman for Mr.

Graman was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Red Bank; and was a life member, exempt member, and the oldest living mem-. ber of the River Plaza Fire Company, Middletown. Born in Red Bank, he was a lifelong River Plaza resident. His wife, Florence Hankinson Graman, died in 1969. Surviving are two sons, Eugene River Plaza; and Marvin H.

Born in Neptune, he lived in Asbury Park before moving to Avon five years ago.
