Hi a a aaaa1 aaa" then NOW 40 ASBURY PARK SUNDAY PRESS, Nov. 19, 1961 THE VIEW OUTDOORS Anthony Falco Played On Unbeaten Bishop 1 1 True Duck Hunting Film Welcome BRIELLE By JIM SULLIVAN Anthony (Duke) Falco, who played on Asbury 1 Park High School's unbeaten championship team of 1940, is now a business SHOP RITE man in Asoury Fark. He nas conducted the Point Soda Shop op Asbury avenue for the past 10 years and also owns a share of More True-to-Life Hunting Movies While guarding a sunken shooting box and 30 decoys against a possible brant attack, which, incidentally, failed to materialize, your agent and Ted Skinner of Point Pleasant had plenty of time to discuss world problems, and waterfowl hunting in particular. During the parley Ted made mention of the wonderful Ducks Unlimited waterfowl shooting movies filmed throughout the continent, which display the best wing shooting and hunting conveniences available. Everything goes exactly right in these movies from the time the boat leaves the dock; each shot is superbly executed, and tho day always ends with the sun sinking gently in the west as the party leaves the marsh with broad smiles and their limits of game.

How About Realism? Skinner stated that it might be highly entertaining, and enlightening to the nonrduck-shooting public, to make a movie showing how the average guy finds the sport, and the many trials and tribulations of going duck shooting, and accepting the day as it comes. The movie would, of course, be in color, with sound, and should and sandwich. All of the sandwiches have been watersoaked, thanks to the leaky boat, and two people have to double up on coffee due to a broken thermos. Just as the lunch is spread out, a flight of birds darts over the decoys, and it's a mad scramble for the guns. Instead of six birds falling to three men, a single cripple glides out and falls some 300 yards from the blind.

A minor argument ensues regarding who will make the tiresome retrieve. Geese Show Up Now Following lunch, everyone leaves the blind for a seventh inning stretch, and at this precise time a gaggle of geese show up, looking as though they would definitely stool, except for the exposed trio of huniers caught flatfooted on the marsh. With renewed gusto they return to the blind to wait, only to cool their heels for another two hours. Sometime during the afternoon, for charity only, a small flock of ducks wings past the decoys, and a pair of birds are downed by the hunting trio. Of course, while picking up the fallen game, one the Orbit Motel.

He playeJ fullback and was the team's high scorer in 1939. His biggest football thrill came when he scored on a 91-yard run after intercepting a pass in the Bishops' upset victory over Phil-lipsburg in 1939. Another high 9 geese are desperately trying to stool, but after working up a heavy sweat and finally bedding down, the morning flight abruptly stops. Waves of Fowl Are Few The next two hours show a shift in wind, which places the decoys in the wrong location; and finally the wind stops and there is hardly a ripple on the water or bird in the sky. It's not wave after wave of wildfowl as in the other movies, but an occasional merganser or our heroes return to the boat landing with their three miserable birds which by now resemble wet dish rags.

Without so much as looking back into the setting sun to see the flocks of birds landing near their abandoned blinds, the overly tired duck hunters pile into a car and head home. To us, it seems that a movie of this type would gently touch upon the heartstrings of the average wildfowler, and would be a fine contrast to the shoot 'em-up spectaculars now being circulated at wsimchJ Smith, and Bill (Butch) Bruno. Falco played halfback on the Bishops' 1940 undefeated 11 that was recognized as the unofficial state champion. Some of his gridiron mates were Bob Layton, Ralph Martorella, Jack Wills, Ernie Siciliano, Bill Sutphen, Vic Musto, George Reiss, Tom Scott, Ed Ehring, Les Dugan, Jack Netcher, Pat Quatrano, Bill Brown, "Red" Smock, "Turk" Etoll, Pete Vetrano, the late "Red" Petillo, and Marty Manger. Falco handled the kicking and some of the passing.

He was the Bishops safety man and was the cific with the 6th Marine Division as a sergeant. He was with the occupation force in Japan. Among the honors he received were the Marine good conduct medal, two battle stars, and tho Presidential unit citation. He was on Guam, Okinawa, and Guadalcanal. Falco played Softball for several years with Gallus Cleaners, alternating between the outfield and third base.

He lives at 1010 4th Asbury Park, with his wife, the former Elizabeth Brown, of Asbury Park, and two sons Joe, 12, and John, nine. Joe played first base with the Yankees, who won the Asbury Park Little League championship. At least, there are reports that on some of the cock pheasants around Madison, the snow white ring around the neck has extended to the ends of their tails after one face to face meeting with minx. A word of caution should be added here, before boxer owners in general rush to the store and exhaust the supply of shotguns and ski goggles.

Minx is an exception. She's like a Boston terrier of old acquaintance who used to live with a nice old lady across the road from a birdfield where pointers were trained. Every time the pointers were working, the little bulldoj would scamper across the road and take lessons, too. But he finally got discouraged. He was probably the staunchest Boston terrier in the world, but he didn't have any future.
