The refueling operation would extend the range of Libyan fighter-bombers to include Israel, as well as other Mediterranean countries, the report said. U.S. intelligence sources had earlier said that a West German company, which they did not identify, had been helping Libya convert C-130s into air tankers.

Der Spiegel also said that the Libyans are converting a Boeing 707 jet into an aerial transport. The U.S. Air Force has dozens of these, known as KC-1 35s. Ingo Mohring, deputy head of Intec, said "our firm has nothing to do with equipping or re-equipping Libyan aircraft," according to Deutsche Presse-Agcntur, the West German news agency. The Associated Press BONN, West Germany A West German company is helping Libya to develop the technique for air-to-air refueling of its jet fighter-bombers to give them enough range to reach Israel, a national newsmagazine reported yesterday.

An official of the company denied the report. Der Spiegel, edited in Hamburg, West Germany, identified the company as a Bavarian company called Intec, operating under the cover of a sister company in Liechtenstein, CTTL. The newsmagazine said that the company's German employees, technicians who had formerly worked for the aircraft company Dornier, were being paid through a Swiss bank. Milton i. lecompte, 84, of Lawrenceville, Lawrence Township, died Saturday at Helene Fuld Medical Center, Trenton. Mr. LeCompte was a millworker and cabinet maker for Bailey Architectural Millwork, Lawrenceville, retiring in 1979 after 35 years.

He was a 45-year member of Carpenters Local 31, and a 1923 graduate of Lakewood High School. Born in Southern, now known as Jackson Township, he had lived in Lawrenceville for the past 50 years. Born in Scotland, he came to the United States in 1923, living most of his life in Union City before moving to Whiting in 1988.
