Merli, 65, a retired teacher and track coach, died Sunday at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Mr. Merli was an Italian and English teacher at Asbury Park High Dominick j. novembre, 75, of Keansburg, died Sunday at River-view Medical Center, Red Bank. Mr.

Novembre was a bartender for 15 years at the Flamingo Tavern, Keansburg, and retired about four years ago. Before that, he was a truck driver for Sheridan Duncan, New York, for 37 years, when retiring in 1967. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Post 1953, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Keansburg, and local 807, Teamsters Union, Long Island City, N.Y.. Mr. Novembre was a communicant of St.

Ann's Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg. His son, James, died in 1983 and a son, Peter, died in May. Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret Anslow; two daughters, Ber-nadette, Keansburg, and Rosemary Stover, Fair Haven; two brothers, Joseph, Long Island, and James, Hazlet Township; two sisters, Mary Pantagdis, Idaho, and Rose McGowan, Long Island; and 10 grandchildren. Faccas lived in Keansburg all his life. Mr. Savino was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. Born in Brooklyn, he lived in Brick for 40 years before recently moving to Wall. Paul w. scherzer 78, of Atlantic Highlands, died yesterday at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Mr. Scherzer owned and operated Paul's Tavern, Atlantic Highlands, for 41 years. He was a member and past president of the Bayshore Tavern Association.

Mr. Scherzer was a member of American Legion Post 141 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10071, both Atlantic Highlands; and Bayshore Chapter, Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of Keyport Elks Lodge 2030. Born in Tahlhehn, Germany, he came to the United States as a child. He lived in Boonton before moving to Atlantic Highlands 41 years ago.

Ocean John C. Curtis, founded company POINT PLEASANT BEACH John C. Curtis, 86, died yesterday at Point Pleasant Hospital. He was the founder of Ship Chandlers a marine supply company which he operated for 50 years. Mr.

Curtis was an Army veteran of World War serving in France with Base Hospital Unit 41. He was a member of Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church. Mr. Curtis was a member of Point Pleasant Beach American Legion, where he was recently awarded a 50-year citation, and a member of Durand Masonic Lodge, Point Pleasant, where he recently received a 50-year membership pin. He was a member of the Point Pleasant Beach Rotary Club; and a charter member of the Shrewsbury and the Barnegat Bay Power Squadrons.

Bom in Point Pleasant, he was a lifelong resident here. Surviving are his wife, the former Constance Widner; a son, John C. II, Point Pleasant; a daughter, Constance Ann Perry, Neptune; two sisters, Katherine Badgley, Albuquerque, N.M., and Henriette Curtis, Point Pleasant; and five grandchildren. Seville, former collector SHIP BOTTOM Ralph Thomas Seville, 82, a former borough official, died Sunday at Seacrest Village Nursing Home, Little Egg Harbor Township. Mr. Seville was a councilman and a tax collector here many years ago. He worked for 10 years for Almond and Silvermaster Construction Long Beach Township, before retiring many years ago. He was previously employed for many years as a firefighter at Fort Dix and as a bartender.

decker, 64, of Bayville, Berkeley Township, died Sunday at Community Memorial Hospital, Toms River. Mrs. Decker was a retired secretary for the Berkeley Township Housing Authority. She was a communicant of St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church, Bayville, a charter member and treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary of Manufacturing Elizabeth, for 35 years, retiring in 1965.

Mr. Kilburg was a former member of the Hungarian German Association, Elizabeth; and a former committeeman for Boy Scout Troop 1 1, Elizabeth. He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses, Brick Township. Bom in Hungary, he lived in Elizabeth and Cranford Township before moving to Toms River 20 years ago. Surviving is his wife, the former Adele Reimer; a son, Richard, Fort Worth, Texas; a daughter, Adeline Schlenker, Kenilworth; a brother, Peter, Stuart, a sister, Kate Korsch, Cranford; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Walter, died in 1979. Out Of Area Annie drum conway, 92, of Hightstown, died Saturday in Princeton Medical Center. She was a rug setter for the Hightstown Rug Co. for 44 years, retiring 27 years ago. Mrs. Conway was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Hightstown Fire Company and the Golden Age Senior Citizens of Hightstown.

Born in Millhurst, Manalapan Township, she lived in Freehold Township before moving to Hightstown 70 years ago. Her husband, George died in 1950. Hutton, 68, a former police chief in Union Beach, N.J., died Satur day at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Bay Pine. He joined the police force in Union Beach and worked his way through the ranks to become chief in the 1960s. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. During World War II, he had been decorated several times for valor. During service in the Korean War he was awarded the Silver Star Medal.

1963 photo HUTTON Mr. Hutton was imprisoned for nearly three years during the Korean War. During the Korean War he was reported missing and presumed dead while he had actually been taken prisoner by Red Chinese units. His wife refused to believe reports of his death and enlisted in the WACs to search for her husband. Mr.

Hutton was released after being imprisoned for 34 months and returned to a "welcome home" celebration in Union Beach. Bora in New York, he lived in Union Beach all his life before moving to New Port Richey two years ago. Surviving are his wife, the former Jacqueline Williams; a son, Capt. Nathan Perlmutter, human rights leader The Associated Press NEW YORK Nathan Perlmutter, national director of the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith since 1979, has died of cancer, the league announced Monday. He was 64. Perlmutter, who spent nearly his entire career with the human rights organization, died at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital in Man hattan on Sunday, according to the an nouncement. He I had been battling' lung cancer since 1985.

Last month, Perlmutter received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest PERLMUTTER civilian award. "He is a hero indeed," President Reagan said in bestowing it, "a hero of the human spirit" A wiry, intense man who expressed himself bluntly, Perlmutter was bora and raised in Brooklyn, the son of Jewish immigrants from Poland. He joined the ADL in Denver in 1949 after finishing law school, and went on to serve as director of three of the agency's 31 regional offices, in Detroit, Miami and New York. In 1965, he left to become associate national director of the American Jewish Committee, and in 1969 he became a vice president of Brandeis University. In 1973, he returned to the Anti-Defamation League, where he remained until his death.

The ADL, founded in 1913, is dedicated to fighting anti-Semitism and racism. Perlmutter was diagnosed as having lung cancer in June 1985. That November, The New York Times Magazine published "Diary of a Cancer Patient," his reflections on his fight against the disease. Alligator kills man The Associated Press WAKULLA SPRINGS, Fla. An alligator attacked and killed a man who swam into an area yesterday inhabited by hundreds of gators downstream from a designated swimming spot in a state park, authorities said.

The body of George P. Cummings, 29, of Tallahassee was recovered at Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park, said Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission spokesman Stan Kirk-land. Col. Brantley Goodson, director of law enforcement for the agency, said game officers shot and wounded a 10-foot alligator believed involved in the attack. The animal escaped, but department officers captured it last night.

Witnesses said Cummings snor-keled downstream about 400 yards from the roped-off, spring-fed swimming area into an area where hundreds of alligators live, Kirkland said. At least three people on a park tour boat saw him next to an alligator Vi hours later, Kirkland said. Mrs. Dehm had been a nurse for 33 years and for the past 10 years was employed at Holmdel Convalescent Center, Holmdel. She was a communicant of St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. Her husband, William died in 1981.

Born in Taylor, Mrs. Dehm moved to Holmdel in 19S6. Surviving are two sons, Kurt Hawaii and Karl Newark; two daughters, Karen I. and Kathryn both at home; two brothers, Walter Skula, Taylor, and Joseph Skula, Plamfield; and three sisters, Anne Con-tos, Miramar, Mary Skula and Olga Cantalupo, both of West Orange. He was a World War II Navy veteran and served with the Army Air Corps after the war. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Newark. Born in Madison Township, now Old Bridge Township, he lived in Freehold and Newark, returning to Freehold a year ago. Surviving are two sons, Henry Jr. and David, both Freehold; two daughters, Birdena Brookins, Glassboro, and Lalecia Banks, Montclair, Calif; two brothers, John Banks, Asbury Park, and Frank Banks, Freehold; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Miss Fleming was an active member in St. Robert Bellarmine Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. She was an active member of Sil-vermead Community Association. Born in Staten Island, she lived there before moving to Freehold in 1976. Surviving are three brothers, John, St.

Louis, James Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y., and Thomas, Morgan-ville, Marlboro Township; five nephews; a niece; and a great-nephew. Scalia Funeral Home, Staten Island, is in charge of arrangements. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9503, Berkeley, and a member of the Berkeley Democratic Club. She was bom in Roselle and resided in Woodbridge Township before moving to Bayville 32 years ago. Surviving are her husband, Joseph; a son, Joseph Bayville; two daughters, Judith Anne Kaiser and Regina Parks, both Bayville; two sisters, Mary Child, Huntsville, and Julia Gick-ing, Yardley, and eight grandchildren.
