She was a retired self-employed bookkeeper. Born in Brooklyn, she lived in Timonium, for 40 years, moving to Middletown a month ago. Surviving is a sister, Jane Paterno, Lakewood. D'Elia Funeral Home, Lakewood, is in charge of arrangements.

Ocean Winifred a. cler, 46, of Point Pleasant, died Sunday at Point Pleasant Hospital. She was a promotional representative for Hudson County News Service, Secaucus. Mrs. Clear was an associate member of Rivera Beach Yacht Club, Brick Township.

She was a member of the Brick Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, she came to this country in 1967. She lived in Edison Township, moving to Point Pleasant 12 years ago. Surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Rixwell Grant, Johannesburg; her husband, John Point Pleasant; a son, John W. at home; two brothers, Kernoch J. and Keith both of Durban, South Africa, and a sister, Susan Grant, Johannesburg. Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, is in charge of arrangements. ANTHONY M.

REO, 69, of Barnegat Township, died Sunday at Southern Ocean County Hospital, Stafford Township. He was a weigh master for Whip-pany Paper Boy Clifton, for 30 years, retiring two years ago. Mr. Reo was a World War II Army veteran. Born in Newark, he lived in Brick Township, moving to Barnegat two years ago.

Surviving are his wife, the former Virginia Keer; a son, Michael J. Barnegat, and a daughter, Nancy L. Reo, both of Barnegat; a brother, Salva-tore Ray, Berkeley Heights Township; two sisters, Anna Policastro, Newark, and Rose Lombardo, Lyndhurst Township, and four grandchildren. HAMANN, of Berkeley Township, a retired hospital administrator, died Sunday at Community Memorial Hospital, Toms River. Mr. Hamann, 60, was employed at New York Hospital, New York City, for 35 years, retiring in 1984. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Born in New York, he lived there, moving to Holiday City South three years ago.

Surviving are his wife, the former Patricia Pollock; two sons, Bradford Brooklyn, and Trent New York; a daughter, Audrey A. Sullivan, Queens, N.Y., and a granddaughter. Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, Toms River, is in charge of arrangements. MARY K. RINAUDO, 44, of Dover Township, died Saturday at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood.

She was a secretary for the past year for Thomas Sons, Whiting, Manchester Township. She was a volunteer for the Manchester First Aid Squad. Born in Indianapolis, she lived most of her life in Ocean County. Surviving are her husband, Benito; two sons. Ricky and Benito both at home; a daughter, Cynthia Anne, at Mayo Clinic, Rochester.

Mr. Thompson was employed by Wendland Robertson Realtors, Minf neapolis, retiring in 1980. Prior to that he was executive director of the Monmouth County Mental Health Association. He was an Army veteran of World! War II. He also served in the Air Force, and was unit instructor for the 9250th Air Force Reserve.

Born in Long Branch, he lived in Freehold and Shrewsbury, moving to Minnesota in 1970. Surviving are his wife, the former Jeannette Higgins, Shrewsbury; three sons, Terrence, Westport, Robr ert, Shrewsbury, and Kevin, Mt. Airy, a daughter, Janet, Rumson; a brother, Frank East Freehold, Free- i hold Township, and six grandchildren. Eric richardson, 70, of st. ai-' bans, Jamaica, Queens, N.Y., died Friday at Veterans Memorial Hospital' Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.

Mr. Richardson, known as "Vink," attended Asbury Park He was an Army veteran of World War II. Born in Boston, he lived in Asbury Park, moving to New York in 1940. Surviving are his wife, the former i Margaret Lyons; a daughter, Sandra, New York; four sisters, Theresa Jones, Asbury Park, Lauretta Pierce, NeptunC, Dorothea Dizard, Asbury Park, and Madeline Parker, New York; two aunts, Mrs. Ernest Hightower, Asbury and Frances Booker, Neptune; five grandchildren, and several and cousins.

Nerve sites linked to pain cause found The Associated Press NEW YORK Scientists have found specialized nerve sites where natural pain-causing substance attaches itself, adding evidence that the substance plays a key role in the, body's perception of pain.

Molecules of the substance, brady-. kinin, bound to the nerve sites in" experiments with dog and guinea pig nerve tissue, said scientists in the' Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Bradykinin is released from bodily tissues when they are injured. Re-, searchers reported last year that drugs designed to block the binding of bra-" dykinin to nerve sites could relieve pain in rats. Sadie Faray Dr. I.E. Medoff, retired as dentist OCEAN TOWNSHIP Dr. Irving E. Medoff, 80, died Sunday at his home.

He was a dentist in Newark and Deal for 50 years, retiring in 1985. Dr. Medoff was a World War II Army veteran, and received seven Battle Stars in the European Theater. He was discharged as a major from the U.S. Ninth Air Force, and was a major in the New Jersey Air National Guard.

He was a member of the American Dental 1969 Association, New MEDOFF Jersey Dental Society, and a life member of Alpha Omega. He was a member of Temple Beth Miriam, Long Branch. He was a 1932 graduate of Washington University, St. Louis. Born in Newark, he lived in Deal, before moving here.

Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret J. Reynolds. Richard C. Hoidal Funeral Home, Oakhurst, is in charge of arrangements. Richard Newman, after transplant MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP Richard N.

Newman, 52, died April 24 at New England Deaconess Hospital, Boston, after a liver transplant operation. Mr. Newman was field supervisor and senior auditor for National Association of Security Dealers New York, for 19 years. He was a 1958 graduate of Columbia University, New York. He was a member of Congregation B'nai Israel, Rumson, and B'nai B'rith of Greater Red Bank.

Mr. Newman was a Navy veteran. Surviving are his wife, the former Ina Rose Weber, a daughter, Sharon, at home, and a brother, Rabbi Donald Newman, Brooklyn. Shomrei Hadas Chapel, Brooklyn, was in charge of arrangements. SAMUEL ADAMS, 67, of Neptune, died Sunday at St.

Vincent's Hospital, Staten Island, N. after a long illness. He was an employee of the New York City Housing Authority, and retired 14 years ago as a fireman. Mr. Adams attended the Community Refuge Church, Manalapan Township.

He was former coach of Biddy League basketball team, Neptune. It was a championship team, and he took the players to New Orleans in 1977. Born in South Carolina, he lived in Brooklyn, moving to the Shore area 20 years ago. Nicholas s. gettis, 72, of West Long Branch, died yesterday at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. He was an employee of the West Long Branch road department for 15 years, retiring in 1981. Mr. Gettis was a communicant of St.

Jerome's Roman Catholic Church, West Long Branch. He was a member of Long Branch Old Guard. Born in Red Bank, he lived in the Red Bank-West Long Branch area all his life. Ethel borinsky goodman, 84, of Long Branch, died yesterday at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. She was piano teacher in Newark many years ago. Mrs. Goodman was a life member of Hadassah of Greater New Jersey. She was a member of Temple Beth Miriam, Elberon, Long Branch.

Born in Russia, she lived in Newark, and Deal, before moving to Long Branch. Her husbands, Samuel Borinsky, and Herman Goodman, predeceased her. Surviving are a son, Arnold Borinsky, Deal; a daughter, Dorothy Uchin, Princeton; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Danskin was a member of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, Spring Lake. Born in Asbury Park, she lived in Wall for 30 years. Her husband, Benjamin died in 1960.

Esteban encarnaction SANTANA, 56, of Asbury Park, died yesterday at Geraldine L. Thompson Medical Center, Allenwood, Wall Township, after a long illness. He was a self-employed painter.

Born in Loiza, Puerto Rico, he had been a resident of the Shore area for the past 35 years. Surviving are two brothers, Lues Encarnaction and Osbaldo Encarnaction, both of Asbury Park; four sisters, Leanor Encarnaction, and Josephine Encarnaction, both of Loiza, Inez Carrion, Asbury Park, and Julia Encarnaction, Neptune. Edward E. Jackson Funeral Home, Neptune, is in charge of local arrangements. JAMES HARGRAVE, 37, of Asbury Park, died Sunday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, East Orange.

Mr. Hargrave, known as "Ricky," was a nurse's aide. He was a Vietnam War veteran. Mr. Hargrave was a graduate of the Middletown Township school system.

He attended Lycoming College, Williamsport, for three years. Born in East Orange, he lived in Asbury Park. Surviving are his son, Jason, and a daughter, Nicole, both at home; his mother, Barbara Cosby, and a stepfather, Henry Cosby, Lincroft, Middle-town; a sister, Pamela Hargrave, Chicago; a stepbrother, Harlan Cosby, Lincroft, Middletown, and maternal grandparents, Irene and William Hargrave, both of Middletown. stahl, 80, of west Belmar, Wall Township, died yesterday at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. He was an employee of the Oakhurst Board of Education, Ocean Township, for 10 years before retiring. Prior to that he was manager of the Royal Hospital, the Bronx, N.Y., for 15 years. Mr. Stahl was a communicant of the Roman Catholic Church of St.

Rose, Belmar. Born in Bayonne, he lived in Jersey City, moving to West Belmar in 1964. Surviving are his wife, the former Elizabeth Hedges; two daughters, Marilyn Stesner, Holmdel Township, and Andrea Schiavoni, North Ridgeville, Ohio; six grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter. WORTH, 93, of Belmar, died Saturday at Lakeview Manor Nursing Home, Lakewood. She was a legal secretary for Clancy, Foster Clancy, East Orange, for 53 years, retiring in 1966. Miss Worth was a communicant of St. Catharine's Roman Catholic Church, Spring Lake, and was a member of the church's Adult Mature Per- sons. She was a member of the Amen- can Association of Retired Persons, Se- nior Citizens Young at Heart, and the Woman's Club, all of Belmar.

Bo in Newark, she lived there, and summered in Belmar for 47 years, moving there permanently 21 years ago. Surviving are a sister, Laurett Keenan, Upper Montclatr, six nieces, and a nephew. Roche, 68, of Crestwood Village, Whiting, died yesterday at Community Memorial Hospital, Toms River. He served in the Army for 22 years, retiring as a master sergeant in 1964. Mr. Roche was a World War II, Korea, and Vietnam War veteran. He was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and had received a Purple Heart, and Bronze Star Medal for valor.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Whiting Memorial Post 8745, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 24, Toms River. Born in Newark, he lived in North Jersey, moving to Crestwood Village in 1986. Surviving are his wife, Mary Sauer Keegan Roche; a stepson, Jack Keegan, Piscataway Township, and three grandchildren. savitsky, 70, of Lakehurst, died Sunday at Community Memorial Hospital, Toms River. Mr. Savitsky was a truck driver for D.J. M. Trucking, Matawan, for 50 years, retiring in 1987.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Key-port. Mr. Savitsky was a World War II Army veteran. Born in Cliffwood, Aberdeen Township, he lived there, moving to Lakehurst six years ago.

Surviving are his wife, the former Norma M. Disbrow; four sons, Michael Keansburg, Joseph, Lakehurst, Douglass Cliffwood, and Stanley; three daughters, Judy Lylo, Mims, Victoria Katon, Lakehurst, and Edith Ulmar, Qifrwood Beach; three brothers, Stanley, Joseph, and John, all of aiffwood; a sister, Victoria Preputnick, Qiffwood; 19 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
