It reads Jane S.

Taylor. My married name is Mrs. William F. Taylor. I have sometimes seen these embossers with only the address or, In one case, the last name centered on the top line, then the address.

Before returning this one for correction, I would appreciate your telling me what is correct for use on envelopes. Mrs. W. Burbank, Calif. As your embosser presumably will not match your name on the writing paper, I would return it and have it read Mrs.

William F. Taylor. The form Jane S. Taylor is usually necessary for the envelopes when the stationery is engraved, otherwise it is necessary to go to the extra expense of having a separate die made for the flap. Mrs.

William F. Taylor is the proper form of address in social correspondence. Embossing may also have only the address but should be complete with apartment number, if any, and ZIP code. If any name Is used, it should be a complete name, not just the last one. DEAR MISS VANDERBILT: It is necessary for me to write a letter to a committee for which there is no chairman listed.

If such a joint address referred to married and unmarried people, what would the form be? Mrs. E.M., Los Angeles, Calif. You have quite a dilemma. The only way would be to address them as Dear Mes-dames- and Gentlemen. You might ask why you would mix a French term with an American one, but there is no feasible plural for "Mrs." and you certainly would not write "Dear Ladies and Gentlemen." If the women were alone in being addressed the term is "Dear Mesdames" and is true whether some are single and some married.

DEAR MISS VANDERBILT: When addressing a woman's organization or a company obviously operated by women, what should the salutation be? For instance, in writing the YWCA, it sounds incongruous to use or to write 'Dear Sirs' to the Girl Scouts of America. Many years ago I believe it was correct to use 'Madames or 'Dear Madam' but that seems out of date. Mrs. M. Danville, Calif.

The proper word is "Mesdames." CTNT SHOP TONIGHT 'Til 0 0 5 CAROL FOLKE Folke-Oliphunt DOVER TOWNSHIP The engagement of Miss Carol Lee Folke to Ronald Oliphant, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Oliphant, 221 Serene Way, has been announced by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John H.
